The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pharmacy at UH Hairmyres for a Student Pharmacy Technician.

You will provide pharmaceutical technical services within all sections of the pharmacy department to patients attending or admitted to the hospital and support the Pharmacy Technicians in the day\-to\-day running of dispensary / Stores and Clinical Services. You will be expected to ensure the accurate, efficient and timely supply of in\-patient, Outpatient, and Discharge prescriptions, pharmaceutical stock and non\-stock supplies to wards and departments.

Over a 2\-year period you will work towards gaining a Diploma/SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services / SVQ Level III and become a Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Candidates should have a minimum of x4 National 5 Qualifications which have to include Biology, Chemistry, English and Maths.

Computer skills/key board skills and good communication skills both verbal and written are essential along with ability to organise and prioritise work and importantly to be a Team player.

*This position is offered at Band 4 Annex 21\. The salary scale for the post is £31,537 per annum rising in annual increments to £34,303 per annum pro\-rata. As a trainee your pay is determined as a percentage of pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms and conditions. As you are more than 2 years from completion of training you will receive 70% of the Band 4, maximum for qualified staff which equates to £24,012 per annum in year 1 and in year two 75% which equates to £25,727\. On completion of your training you will be placed on either the first pay point of the appropriate pay band or the next pay point above your training salary. In this key role, you will:

To dispense prescriptions, including in\-patient, out\-patient, controlled drug, clinical trials and clozapine prescription in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures as directed by the Senior Pharmacy Technician.

To carry out final accuracy checks on prescriptions dispensed by others.

To deputise in the absence of the Senior Pharmacy Technician

To answer telephone and face to face enquiries of a technical nature from a wide range of staff groups and patients either in the pharmacy or on the ward and refer appropriate queries to the relevant member of the pharmacy team when necessary.

Liaise with nursing and medical staff with regard to prescription interventions e.g. missing details, incorrectly prescribed dosages \- passing on any clinical queries to the relevant pharmacist.

What You'll Bring:

Diploma/SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or equivalent to enable registration as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Undertake revalidation required by General Pharmaceutical Council and maintain a portfolio of personal and professional development.
