1:1 Teaching Assistant
About the role
Paradise Primary School is seeking a caring, patient and committed One\-to\-One Teaching Assistant to support a pupil who requires additional help to access learning and participate fully in school life.
Working closely with the class teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), you will provide consistent, personalised support that helps the pupil develop confidence, independence and positive relationships.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one\-to\-one support during lessons and other parts of the school day, as required.
- Help the pupil access classroom activities through appropriate explanations, resources and encouragement.
- Follow agreed support plans and strategies, adapting your approach under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCo.
- Support communication, emotional wellbeing, social interaction and positive behaviour.
- Encourage independence, allowing the pupil to practise and develop skills without unnecessary adult intervention.
- Support inclusion in group activities, playtimes and the wider school community.
- Record relevant observations and share progress, achievements and concerns with appropriate staff.
- Work professionally with colleagues, parents, carers and external professionals, as directed.
- Follow school procedures for safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, and reporting concerns.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children in a school, childcare or similar setting.
- Is calm, patient, reliable and able to build positive relationships with children.
- Understands that children have different learning and support needs.
- Can follow guidance while using initiative appropriately.
- Has good communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
- Works effectively as part of a team.
- Is committed to inclusion, safeguarding and helping every child succeed.
- Respects and supports the school’s ethos and values.
- Experience providing one\-to\-one support or working with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- A relevant Teaching Assistant, childcare or education qualification.
- Training in supporting communication, emotional regulation or positive behaviour.
