Location: Stratford-upon-Avon (main depot)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm
About the Role
An established and well-respected supplier within the construction and infrastructure sector is seeking a hands-on Yard Supervisor to join its busy depot in Stratford-upon-Avon.
This is a key operational role requiring a proactive individual with strong leadership skills and significant experience working within a construction or plant hire yard environment. The position is highly practical and involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, taking full responsibility for day-to-day yard operations while leading from the front.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining high operational standards, driving efficiency, and ensuring strict adherence to health and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and supervise the day-to-day operations of the yard
- Operate telehandlers (valid licence essential)
- Load and unload articulated vehicles safely and efficiently
- Sort, inspect, and manually clean hire and used materials
- Maintain yard organisation, stock control, and operational standards
- Complete and manage accurate daily operational paperwork
- Supervise and support Yard Operatives, including performance management and holiday approvals
- Coordinate temporary labour requirements where necessary
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment
- Conduct regular stock checks and maintain accuracy
- Arrange servicing, maintenance, and upkeep of plant and yard equipment
- Supervise site consumables, including arranging skip changes and sourcing quotes
- Monitor fuel levels and provide accurate data for ordering
- Support senior management with ongoing yard improvements and development
- Provide regular updates on performance, staffing, and operational matters
- Extensive experience operating telehandlers within a commercial yard or construction environment (current licence required)
- Proven experience supervising or managing operational teams in a similar setting
- Strong understanding of employee supervision and basic HR processes
- Experience handling construction materials and hire-based products
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Basic IT skills, including Outlook and working knowledge of Excel
- Strong leadership ability with a hands-on, team-focused approach
- Full UK driving licence
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions
