Working Student Backend Engineer (m/w/d)

We believe reliably engineered services are essential to how we operate. We are looking for a Working Student to help us catch, resolve, and reduce application\-level incidents.
Level: Junior Location: Berlin
Your role
As a Working Student, you will support the reliability of our backend services, identifying incidents raised through monitoring, determining root cause, and resolving issues within the services. You will help extend monitoring coverage as our systems grow, and support ongoing refactoring within the services. This role suits candidates with a structured, analytical approach to troubleshooting and an interest in how backend services operate end to end.
Key responsibilities
Incident Monitoring \& Resolution
- Monitor application\-level alerts for service and business\-logic incidents
- Investigate incidents and determine root cause
- Resolve issues directly within the services
- Create and maintain standards for handling known recurring incidents
- Document issues clearly to ensure reproducibility
- Support refactoring and technical debt reduction within the services
- Work with the team to expand monitoring metrics across services
- Keep affected teams and stakeholders informed on incident status
Experience \& Skills
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Informatics, or a related field
- Working knowledge of Python, with the ability to read, debug, and modify service code
- Comfortable working with APIs, databases, and backend business logic
- Structured, methodical approach to troubleshooting
- Good written and spoken English (B2\+)
- Conversational German, useful when coordinating with Operations on incidents
- Analytical and persistent in tracing issues to its root cause
- Comfortable with work requiring consistency and follow\-through
- Pragmatic and solution\-oriented
- Comfortable working in a growing startup environment
- Familiarity with Java/Spring Boot
- Full\-stack experience is a strong plus
- Experience with ticketing/incident tools (Notion, Jira, or similar)
- Familiarity with observability tools (metrics, logging, alerting)
- Familiarity with AI productivity tools (ChatGPT, Claude, or similar)
- Interest in the energy industry
