We are a well\-established, friendly local window and door company based in Solihull and are looking for an experienced Window \& Door Fitter / Service Engineer / Surveyor to join our team.

Location: Solihull and surrounding areas
Hours: Full\-time or part\-time considered \*\*SALARIED POSITION (NOT SELF EMPLOYED)\*\*
Reporting to: Company Directors / Management

Purpose of the Role

To undertake window and door installations, service and remedial work, fault finding and technical surveying on behalf of the company.

This is a varied practical role and the balance between fitting, service work and surveying will change depending upon the requirements of the business.

The successful candidate will need a good level of practical experience within the window and door industry, excellent attention to detail and the ability to represent the company professionally when working in customers' homes.

Installation Responsibilities

  • Install replacement PVCu windows and doors.

  • Install composite doors and other products within the candidate's experience.

  • Remove existing windows and doors safely and carefully.

  • Ensure new products are installed square, level and correctly adjusted.

  • Complete internal and external finishing to a high standard.

  • Fit trims, cills, sealants and associated finishing products.

  • Protect customers' property and maintain a clean and tidy working environment.

  • Work independently or alongside other members of the installation team.

  • Identify and report any unexpected problems encountered during installation.

  • Complete installations in accordance with company procedures and relevant industry requirements.
Service \& Remedial Responsibilities
  • Attend customers' properties to investigate reported problems.

  • Accurately diagnose faults and determine the appropriate solution.

  • Adjust windows and doors to ensure correct operation.

  • Repair or replace suitable hardware including handles, hinges, locks, cylinders and mechanisms.

  • Investigate draughts, water ingress, sealing and operational issues.

  • Assess glazing and sealed\-unit problems.

  • Carry out minor remedial and finishing works.

  • Identify replacement components required and provide the office with accurate information for ordering.

  • Take photographs and complete clear service reports.

  • Identify when an issue requires further investigation or specialist assistance.

  • Aim to resolve problems during the initial visit wherever reasonably possible, rather than simply reporting them back to the office.
Surveying Responsibilities
  • Carry out accurate pre\-installation surveys for replacement windows, doors and associated products.

  • Measure openings and determine appropriate manufacturing sizes.

  • Check the customer's order against actual site conditions.

  • Confirm styles, configurations and opening directions.

  • Assess existing frames, openings, cills, thresholds and surrounding structures.

  • Identify potential lintel or structural concerns and escalate these where necessary.

  • Consider access and any difficulties that could affect installation.

  • Determine finishing and making\-good requirements.

  • Take clear photographs and provide detailed information for the office and installation teams.

  • Complete survey paperwork accurately and thoroughly.

  • Identify discrepancies or potential problems before products are ordered for manufacture.
Customer Service

As this is a customer\-facing role, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Be polite, approachable and professional.

  • Communicate technical information in straightforward language.

  • Treat customers' homes and property with care and respect.

  • Remain calm and professional when dealing with complaints or difficult situations.

  • Avoid making commitments regarding refunds, replacements or liability without management authorisation.

  • Keep customers appropriately informed about the work being undertaken.

  • Represent the company positively at all times.
Essential Experience \& Skills

The successful candidate should have:

  • Previous practical experience within the window and door/fenestration industry.

  • Window and door installation experience.

  • Good knowledge of PVCu windows and doors.

  • Experience of adjusting and repairing windows and doors.

  • Good practical fault\-finding and problem\-solving skills.

  • Understanding of common window and door locking systems and hardware.

  • Ability to accurately measure windows and doors.

  • Good attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to complete clear and accurate paperwork/job reports.

  • Full clean UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Technical surveying

  • Composite doors

  • Aluminium windows and doors

  • Bifold doors

  • French and patio doors

  • Conservatories

  • Glazing and sealed units

  • Multipoint locking mechanisms

  • Building Regulations relating to replacement windows and doors

  • Competent Person Scheme requirements

  • Identifying lintel and structural issues

  • Remedial and service work

Working Arrangements

The role will predominantly involve working at customers' properties throughout Solihull and the surrounding areas.

The position will involve a mixture of installation, service/remedial work and surveying, with the balance varying according to the company's workload.

We are open to discussing full\-time or part\-time working arrangements for the right candidate.

Pay will be dependent upon experience, capabilities and agreed working hours. Company vehicle and other working arrangements will be discussed with the successful applicant.

Pay: From £35,000\.00 per year
