Job Summary

The Web Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimising responsive websites and web applications that support the organisation’s digital, commercial, and customer\-facing objectives. The role requires strong technical expertise across front\-end and back\-end web development, with the ability to translate design concepts and business requirements into secure, scalable, high\-performing digital solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1\. Web Development

  • Develop responsive, user\-friendly, and high\-performing websites and web applications in line with technical specifications, business requirements, and approved designs.

  • Build and maintain front\-end interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern web development frameworks and libraries.

  • Contribute to back\-end development, server\-side functionality, database integration, and API development where required.

  • Ensure websites and web applications are scalable, maintainable, reliable, and optimised for different devices and screen sizes.
2\. Front\-End Development \& Responsive Design
  • Translate UI/UX designs, wireframes, and prototypes into functional and accessible web interfaces.

  • Implement responsive and mobile\-first development principles to ensure consistent user experiences across desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.

  • Ensure compatibility across major browsers, operating systems, and devices.

  • Collaborate with designers to maintain visual consistency, usability, accessibility, and technical feasibility throughout the development process.
3\. Back\-End Development, APIs \& Databases
  • Develop and maintain server\-side functionality, APIs, integrations, and database\-driven applications as required by projects.

  • Work with technologies such as Node.js and other appropriate back\-end frameworks or platforms.

  • Integrate third\-party APIs, payment systems, CRM platforms, analytics tools, and other external services where required.

  • Work with relational and/or non\-relational databases, ensuring appropriate data structures, performance, integrity, and security.
4\. Content Management Systems \& Website Maintenance
  • Develop, customise, maintain, and update websites using content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress or other relevant platforms.

  • Create and maintain custom themes, plugins, components, templates, and CMS functionality where required.

  • Perform regular website updates, technical maintenance, content\-related development tasks, and system improvements.

  • Identify opportunities to improve website functionality, usability, performance, and maintainability.
5\. Code Quality, Version Control \& Development Standards
  • Write clean, efficient, well\-structured, reusable, and maintainable code in accordance with established development standards and best practices.

  • Use version control systems such as Git and platforms such as GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket to manage source code and development workflows.

  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to support code quality and knowledge sharing.

  • Maintain appropriate technical documentation relating to code, systems, integrations, configurations, and development processes.
6\. Testing, Debugging \& Troubleshooting
  • Conduct functional, integration, regression, usability, and cross\-browser testing as appropriate.

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve technical issues, bugs, performance problems, and compatibility issues.

  • Use appropriate developer tools, debugging software, testing frameworks, and monitoring tools to investigate and resolve issues efficiently.

  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and resolve identified technical issues prior to deployment.
7\. Website Performance \& SEO Optimisation
  • Optimise websites and web applications for speed, performance, Core Web Vitals, scalability, and overall user experience.

  • Implement technical SEO best practices, including appropriate HTML structure, metadata, URL structures, page performance, crawlability, structured data, and mobile usability.

  • Monitor website performance and recommend improvements based on analytics, technical audits, and performance data.
8\. Collaboration \& Project Delivery
  • Collaborate with designers, clients, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver digital projects successfully.

  • Participate in project planning, technical discussions, development sprints, progress meetings, and project reviews.

  • Provide realistic technical estimates, communicate project risks and dependencies, and proactively raise issues that may affect delivery timelines or quality.

  • Contribute technical recommendations and identify opportunities to improve development processes and digital solutions.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of proven professional experience in web development, with demonstrable experience delivering production websites and/or web applications.

  • Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript development.

  • Practical experience with at least one modern front\-end framework or library such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.

  • Working knowledge of back\-end development technologies such as Node.js or equivalent server\-side technologies.

  • Experience working with REST APIs and third\-party API integrations.

  • Practical experience with CMS platforms such as WordPress or equivalent systems.

  • Understanding of relational and/or non\-relational databases and database\-driven web applications.

  • Experience using Git or another version control system within a professional development environment.

  • Strong understanding of responsive and mobile\-first web development principles.

  • Good understanding of UX/UI principles and the ability to work effectively from design files, wireframes, and prototypes.

  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards, including WCAG principles.

  • Experience with browser developer tools, testing, debugging, and performance optimisation.

  • Understanding of web security principles and secure development practices.

  • Strong problem\-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver projects within agreed deadlines.

Pay: £33,000\.00\-£38,000\.00 per year
