The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead and coordinate the Despatch and Goods In department, which is based only a 5\-minute walk from East Worthing railway station.
As our Warehouse Manager, you will:
- Monitor warehouse performance, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to maintain fluid stock movement and throughput.
- Drive logistics optimisation initiatives, waste reduction, and process improvements across all storage areas, identifying opportunities to integrate warehouse automation and technology.
- Oversee the implementation and optimisation of automated systems (such as automated picking, sorting, or conveyor systems) to increase efficiency and reduce manual handling errors.
- Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and warehouse staff, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Champion a culture of positivity, inclusivity, and high performance.
- Work closely with other departments to identify and implement stock accuracy improvement programmes, cost\-effectiveness, and align warehouse capacity with business demand.
- Optimise staffing, space utilisation, and equipment needs based on despatch and intake forecasts.
- Conduct risk assessments, promote a strong safety culture, investigate incidents, and implement preventative measures across the warehouse floor.
- Support capital expenditure planning for material handling equipment, automated systems, and storage upgrades.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as picking accuracy, stock discrepancy rates, order turnaround times, and labour efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing warehouse operations in a fast\-paced distribution or logistics environment, with a strong understanding of inventory control, stock accuracy, and warehouse management systems (WMS). The ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with employees, customers, and transport partners, as well as negotiate cost\-effective freight and courier services, is essential.
In addition, the successful applicant must be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills and the ability to foster a culture of workplace safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. As an active member of the management team, they will also need to contribute beyond their core remit and provide constructive input on activities that fall outside the remit of the role.
