For more than 40 years, the Alcohol \& Drug Service (ADS) has been changing lives by supporting people affected by problematic drug and alcohol use. We are now looking for compassionate, motivated volunteers and peer mentors to join our growing team within the East Riding Partnership (ERP).

ERP is a partnership between ADS and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, delivering specialist community treatment services across our hubs in Hull, Bridlington, and Goole. Our multi\-disciplinary teams provide a wide range of support services including:

  • Aftercare support

  • Young people’s services

  • Community rehabilitation programmes

  • Specialist support for image and performance enhancing drug/steroid use.

  • Volunteer and peer mentor support services for service users and carers.
Become a Peer Mentor

Many people entering treatment feel isolated and unsure about the future. Peer mentors play a vital role by showing that recovery is possible. By sharing lived experience, offering encouragement, and building supportive relationships, peer mentors help others take positive steps towards rebuilding their lives.

As a peer mentor, you will:

  • Inspire others through your recovery journey.

  • Offer friendship, encouragement, and practical support.

  • Help individuals build confidence, social skills, and healthy support networks.

  • Support people as they reconnect with their communities and move forward positively.
Peer mentors are not expected to replace professional staff — instead, they provide something equally valuable: understanding, hope, and connection.

Volunteer Opportunities

We also warmly welcome volunteers without lived experience who would like to give back to their community. If you can spare some time to share your skills, interests, or hobbies, you could help service users rebuild confidence, develop new interests, and reconnect socially.

Training \& Support

All volunteers and peer mentors receive a fully accredited training programme, ongoing support, and the opportunity to develop valuable skills and experience within a supportive and rewarding environment.

Why Join ADS?

Working at ADS is more than a job, it’s an investment of time to make a difference to the lives of people with substance misuse issues and their families.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974\.

The ADS is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity. We promote the fair and equal treatment of potential and existing employees and service users.

For over 30 years, we have delivered effective interventions in towns and cities. We’ve helped thousands of local people on the road to recovery, across Humberside, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, as we help the national strategy on a local basis.

The Alcohol \& Drug Service is a charity (Registered Charity 1108595; and a Company Limited by Guarantee, Company No. 05375809\). The majority of our funding comes through contracts with statutory commissioners such as Local Authorities and the NHS, but we receive valuable income from charitable grants and individual fundraising efforts which supports many of our most innovative services. We are governed by a Board of Trustees.

We ensure that the organisation is run well and we are a part of the Investors in People scheme, a quality framework which is independently audited. We currently hold the Silver award.

But, even though we’ve been transforming the lives of people affected by drugs or alcohol misuse for over 30 years, some people may not have heard of us. This is because we always work in partnership – and often deliver our services and projects which have their own names/identities.
