We are recruiting for a: Volunteer Barnet Project Manager

The Volunteering Barnet Project Manager will be responsible for the management, delivery and monitoring of Volunteering Barnet, will lead the training and capacity building of organisations to build volunteer management best practice in their operations, and work with Barnet Together partners to align our services.

Job Purpose

Inspiring and supporting volunteering since 2015, Volunteering Barnet is the Borough’s Volunteer Centre, delivered by Groundwork London. Our aim is to unite volunteers and organisations to strengthen the community we support and promote all aspects of volunteering. Volunteering Barnet focuses on inspiring current and prospective volunteers to identify and start new volunteering opportunities in the borough and working with Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations to embed quality volunteer management practice into their operations.

In 2023, Groundwork co\-produced the Barnet Volunteer Strategy with the VCFSE sector, Barnet Council and current / prospective volunteers. The strategy shapes the work programme of Volunteering Barnet, with current priorities including:

  • Volunteering as a pathway to employment

  • Supporting more Sanctuary Seekers into Volunteering

  • Working with Barnet VCFSE organisations to establish accessible and flexible volunteering opportunities

  • Promotion of Barnet Council’s Employee Supported Volunteering work programme
To be successful, we are seeking a candidate with excellent knowledge and experience of volunteering management best practice and an understanding of both national and local volunteer trends. The postholder should be an experienced project manager, project leader and training facilitator. You will be passionate about volunteering and be able to work at different locations across Barnet at least three days per week. You will have team leadership and line management responsibilities. Delivering an inclusive volunteering programme is important to us, so lived experience of disability and / or lived experience / representation of communities underrepresented in volunteering/voluntary sector would be advantageous.

  • Are passionate about volunteering, with excellent knowledge in volunteer management

  • Have the ability to develop and deliver training on volunteer management best practice and associated topics

  • Are an experienced project manager in community or volunteer contracts, including delivery planning, budget and MEL management

  • Have knowledge and/or experience of working with the voluntary, community, faith or social enterprise sector. Experience working in Barnet is desirable

  • Have excellent networking and liaison skills, including developing and maintaining a range of high level partnerships

  • Have strong team management and leadership qualities
