*Help us build a community veterinary service that prevents suffering before it happens*

The RSPCA Blackpool \& North Lancashire Branch is embarking on an exciting new chapter as we develop our community veterinary service to support animals and the people who care for them.

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Surgeon to join our team for three days per week. This is a unique opportunity to help build and shape a preventative, welfare\-focused veterinary service within a well\-established animal welfare charity.

Based at our Longview Animal Centre, you will play a key role in improving animal welfare outcomes through preventative healthcare, routine surgery, clinical decision\-making and community support. You will work closely with our experienced animal care, rehoming and leadership teams, along with the RSPCA inspectorate, to ensure the highest standards of welfare for animals in our care and within our local community.

This role would suit a vet who enjoys variety, values clinical autonomy, and wants to make a meaningful difference without the pressures of corporate targets or sales\-driven practice.
Applications from vets returning to practice and those looking to move from corporate practice into the charity sector are warmly welcomed.

About the Role

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering preventative healthcare, including vaccinations, parasite control, microchipping and health checks

  • Performing routine surgical procedures, including neutering and minor soft tissue surgery

  • Providing clinical oversight and support for animals in the branch's care

  • Supporting the development of community\-focused veterinary initiatives

  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and ensuring compliance with professional standards

  • Working collaboratively with animal care, rehoming and management teams

  • Supporting the creation and implementation of clinical protocols and procedures
You'll Bring
  • MRCVS and eligible to practise as a Veterinary Surgeon in the UK

  • Minimum three years' post\-qualification experience

  • Experience in preventative healthcare and routine surgical procedures

  • Confidence in clinical decision\-making and sole\-charge working

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A collaborative, practical approach and a willingness to help build a developing service

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle due to our rural location

  • A genuine commitment to animal welfare and the aims and values of the RSPCA

  • Understanding of population health management, infectious disease control and biosecurity within a kennel or cattery environment
Desirable
  • Previous experience within charity, shelter or community veterinary practice

  • Understanding of kennel or shelter medicine

  • Experience working with vulnerable clients or community support programmes
What We Offer
  • No out\-of\-hours requirement

  • Three\-day working week (Tuesday–Thursday)

  • Funded RCVS membership and VDS cover

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)

  • Generous CPD allowance of £1,500 per annum

  • Access to RSPCA veterinary resources, networks and professional development opportunities

  • Opportunity to help co\-create and develop a growing community veterinary service

  • Supportive, collaborative charity environment focused on welfare rather than profit

  • The chance to make a direct and lasting impact on animal welfare across Blackpool and North Lancashire
