About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join Nicholas O’Dwyer’s Infrastructure Department and support the design and delivery of major civil infrastructure projects across Ireland.
The successful candidate will have a strong civil engineering background with demonstrable experience in the design, coordination and delivery of infrastructure projects. You will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and preliminary design through detailed design, procurement, construction and handover.
This is a key technical and project delivery role within Nicholas O’Dwyer, offering the opportunity to work on significant infrastructure projects while contributing to the continued growth and reputation of the Infrastructure Department.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the civil engineering design and delivery of infrastructure projects, including roads, drainage, utilities, site development, earthworks and associated civil works.
- Manage civil engineering work packages across all project stages, from feasibility and option selection through detailed design, procurement, construction and handover.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, geotechnical, environmental, transport, mechanical and electrical specialists.
- Prepare and review technical designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, contract documents and tender submissions.
- Develop and maintain project programmes, budgets, risk registers and resource plans to achieve time, cost and quality objectives.
- Ensure designs and project deliverables comply with relevant Irish legislation, technical standards, regulatory requirements and health and safety obligations.
- Support the administration and management of construction contracts, including progress monitoring, change control, variations, cost control and reporting.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, statutory authorities, utility providers, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, graduate engineers and technicians, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability and technical excellence.
- Undertake site inspections and technical reviews to ensure construction activities comply with the design intent, contract requirements, safety standards and environmental best practice.
- Identify and manage technical, commercial, programme and delivery risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support project managers in monitoring project performance, expenditure, resources, deliverables and commercial outcomes.
- Contribute to business development activities, including tender preparation, fee proposals, expressions of interest and client presentations.
- Champion health, safety, quality, sustainability and continuous improvement throughout project delivery.
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (BEng/MEng or Equivalent) or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland or another recognised professional body or actively working towards chartership.
- A minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in the design and delivery of civil infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical knowledge across relevant civil engineering areas, including roads, drainage, utilities, earthworks and site development.
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects through feasibility, preliminary design, detailed design, procurement, construction and handover.
- Experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, tender documentation and contract documents.
- Knowledge of relevant Irish and European civil engineering standards, legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and managing interfaces between technical disciplines.
- Experience in contract administration under NEC, FIDIC, Public Works Contracts or similar forms of contract would be advantageous.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
- Good commercial awareness, including experience managing budgets, resources, scope changes and financial performance.
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder\-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering and project\-management software. Experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MS Project or similar software would be advantageous.
- A proactive, adaptable and solutions\-focused approach, with a strong “can\-do” mindset.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, sustainability and environmental performance.
- A full clean Irish driving licence.
