Upholstery Sewing Machinist

Due to continuing growth we are looking for an experienced Upholstery Sewing Machinist at our busy factory in South Normanton DE55 2FX.

Duties include Lock stitching and overlock of chairs, sofa's and beds for customer orders in fabric and Leather in a fast\-paced sewing production environment ready for upholstery. Training will be given on site with good rates of pay once trial period is completed.
DESCRIPTION/JOB SUMMARY
- The Sewing Machinist is responsible for the sewing of fabric for furniture efficiently.
- The Sewing Machinist reports directly to the Production Manager.
- Sewing pieces of fabric and leather together using lockstitch and overlocker machines and make upholstery.
- To thread machine and change cottons
- To maintain their machine i.e. keep it clean and lubricated.
- Change needle regularly.
- Keep the area around machine clean and well stocked for work.
- Communicate with the sewing supervisor and bring up any issues and help maintain a good working environment.
- Be able to read the ticket and know what is required for the job.
- Decide on appropriate sewing techniques before work commences.
- Select suitable thread, zips, etc needed.
- Operating the foot pedal, plus the stitch length and width regulations as you sew
- Ability to create, read and follow patterns.
- Good communication skills
- Skilled sewing machinist
- Able to work under pressure and deliver to deadlines
- Excellent organisation skills
- Great accuracy skills and attention to detail
- Secondary school education
- Sewing experience is essential, sewing furniture fabric \& leather essential.

Monday 6am \-2:30pm
Tuesday 6am \-2:30pm
Wednesday 6am \-2:30pm
Thursday 6am \-2:30pm
Friday 6am \-12:00pm
Overtime as and when required.
Must be hard working and reliable.
Job Types: Permanent
Starting Salary: Dependant on experience negotiable. Initial training rate whilst learning the products/ models. You will then be paid piecework (The amount of pay depends on the number of finished product machined)
Great rates of pay after training completed.
