Description \& Requirements

Your Team
The European Court of Human Rights is the judicial body which oversees the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights in the member states of the Council of Europe. Individuals can bring complaints of human rights violations to the Strasbourg Court once all possibilities of appeal have been exhausted in the member state concerned.

Support to the Registry’s case\-processing lawyers is provided by assistants who work in Administrative Support Teams (ASTs). The ASTs are part of the Directorate of Filtering and Support Services. You will be working in one of these ASTs. Each AST provides administrative support to various legal units, organised by country. On arrival, you will receive comprehensive training.

Your Role
As a Turkish\-speaking Assistant, you will:

  • process judgments, minutes, decisions and other documents of the Court;

  • draft, format and finalise correspondence and other documents according to instructions;

  • use applications databases: enter and maintain data in the Court Management Information System (CMIS) and in other case\-management tools;

  • handle and file mail and documents; keep electronic and paper files up\-to\-date;

  • assist lawyers in the preliminary legal analysis of cases;

  • prepare and keep up\-to\-date lists and statistics related to cases.

Requirements to apply
You must


  • hold a diploma equivalent to at least two years of post\-secondary education, followed by at least one year's recent professional experience directly related to the nature of the support functions (preferably in paralegal tasks, data management or projects); in the absence of a post\-secondary education diploma, secondary education must be completed and followed by at least two years of recent professional experience directly related to the nature of the support functions;

  • have an excellent knowledge of Turkish (first language level);

  • have a very good knowledge of one of the Council of Europe’s official languages (English/French);

  • have a basic knowledge of the other language (English/French) or the ability to acquire that knowledge during the period of assignment.
You must also:
  • be a citizen of one of the member states of the Council of Europe and fulfil the conditions for appointment to the civil service of that state;

  • have discharged any obligation concerning national service (military, civil or comparable);

  • not be the parent, child, stepchild or grandchild of a serving staff member of the Council of Europe

  • be under 65 years of age at the closing of the deadline for submission of applications for this vacancy notice.
