About the Role
As a Transport Planning Apprentice, you will play a key role in supporting the Transport Planning team to deliver efficient, cost\-effective and customer\-focused transport solutions across the network. You will learn how to plan transport operations, analyse data, communicate with customers and operational sites, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while working towards your apprenticeship qualification.
You will support Dunelm's nationwide transport operation, helping to plan and coordinate deliveries to 194 Dunelm stores and 77 supplier locations across the UK and Ireland. Working within a network that delivers an average of 15,000 pallets per week, you will help create transport plans on a day one for day three basis, ensuring efficient and reliable deliveries from key distribution centres in Stoke and Leicester. DHL has managed Dunelm's transport and logistics operations for over a decade, providing Class 1 driving, trunking and warehousing services, making this an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a large\-scale, fast\-paced supply chain environment.Key Responsibilities will be
Transport Planning \& Operations
- Support transport planning activities to maximise vehicle utilisation and achieve service targets.
- Meet planning deadlines and assist with operational reviews.
- Work with transport sites to ensure plans are delivered effectively.
- Support the allocation of excess work across the DHL network.
- Use planning systems such as CTMS, CFX and Paragon to allocate work.
- Gather and analyse operational data to support planning decisions.
- Produce reports, update systems and support process improvements.
- Identify trends and opportunities through data analysis.
- Act as a point of contact for customers and key stakeholders.
- Communicate with transport sites, suppliers and delivery locations.
- Build strong working relationships to improve service and efficiency.
- Support customer\-focused initiatives across the network.
- Assist with continuous improvement projects and change initiatives.
- Follow SOPs, Work Instructions and planning processes.
- Promote best practice to improve service and operational performance.
- Develop an understanding of cost management and network profitability.
You will undertake learning on the Supply Chain practitioner Level 3 Apprenticeship and will learn the below areas and more to become a real Subject matter expert in the field of logistics transport planning
- Understand how the end\-to\-end supply chain operates, from supplier to customer.
- Use transport planning systems and technology to schedule and manage work.
- Analyse data and KPI reports to support operational decision\-making.
- Develop planning and forecasting skills to meet customer demand effectively.
- Build communication and stakeholder management skills with customers, suppliers and operational teams.
- Solve operational challenges and make decisions in a fast\-paced logistics environment.
- Understand compliance, health \& safety requirements and operational procedures.
- Apply continuous improvement techniques to increase efficiency and service performance.
- Develop commercial awareness by understanding cost, service and profitability impacts.
- Build professional skills including teamwork, problem\-solving, accountability and customer focus.

- COMPENSATION:
- £21,000 per annum starting salary, with increases throughout the programme.
