About the Opportunity
Via is supporting a growing organisation within the waste, recycling, and environmental services sector in the search for a Transport Planner to join their operations team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with transport, logistics, traffic planning, or fleet coordination experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
You'll play a key role in ensuring vehicle movements, collections, exchanges, and deliveries are planned efficiently while maintaining excellent service standards for customers and supporting a team of drivers across a large operational area.
The Role
As a Transport Planner, you'll be responsible for coordinating daily transport operations, managing schedules, and ensuring resources are deployed effectively to maximise efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily vehicle routes, collections, exchanges, and deliveries.
- Monitor driver schedules, working hours, and compliance requirements.
- Communicate with drivers throughout the day to provide updates and operational support.
- Conduct driver debriefs and gather feedback on completed routes.
- Liaise with customers and internal teams regarding bookings, service updates, ETAs, and operational queries.
- Maintain accurate records across planning and transport systems.
- Respond quickly to operational changes and adjust plans accordingly.
- Support transport compliance, health and safety, and operational best practices.
- Assist with monitoring fleet utilisation and vehicle performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve route efficiency and service delivery.
- Provide general support to the wider transport and operations team as required.
Essential
- Previous experience in Transport Planning, Traffic Planning, Transport Coordination, Logistics Coordination, or a similar operational role.
- Experience working within logistics, haulage, transport, waste management, distribution, or related industries.
- Understanding of driver hours regulations and transport compliance requirements.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence working with drivers, customers, and colleagues.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- A proactive and customer-focused approach.
- CPC, NVQ, BTEC, or other transport and logistics-related qualifications.
- Experience within waste or recycling operations.
- Knowledge of route planning principles.
- Strong geographical knowledge.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within transport operations.
- Competitive salary of £28,000.
