Transport Planner

Overview
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Transport Planner to join our team. The role will report to Director level and will carry significant responsibility, accountability and autonomy in relation to planning the distribution of landscaping products. It is essential that the role holder is at ease working at a fast pace, is comfortable with pressure and deadlines, is a strong communicator and a confident decision maker.

The candidate will have responsibility for the national transportation of goods from our distribution centres to our business customers.

They will be working across the Customer Engagement Team, Warehousing and our Transport supply partners (both hauliers and pallet networks) to ensure a seamless, safe and cost\-effective service is delivered whilst meeting agreed service level agreements (SLA’s).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Coordinating transportation through third party haulage companies, \- day\-to\-day planning of loads, maximising load optimization, and securing hauliers to take on work in a cost\-effective manner

· Working with the Company’s various Distribution Centres to ensure products are picked ahead of collection and clearly communicating risks to mitigate any exposure

· Manage haulier issues in real time and hold to account performance below the minimum expectations agreed

· Maximising load utilisation to ensure all loads are carrying the maximum amount of product within the legal limit

· Accurate management and recording of transport costs

· Collating relevant feedback to ensure proactive relationship management of hauliers when issues arise

· Utilising transportation availability by working closely with the Customer Engagement Team

· Develop relationships with new haulage subcontractors to widen our portfolio of hauliers.

· Ensuring all aspects of the transport function’s policies and processes are clearly documented

· Support regular briefings to the wider Customer Engagement Team to ensure process adherence and good decision\-making is being used

· Accurately maintain all relevant systems real time to ensure all departments are clear on the transport schedule you will own.

· Work with the Customer Experience Director to develop new strategies to improve efficiency.

· Improve communication with our customers in the event of issues with deliveries or vehicle availability

· Ultimate accountability and responsibility for understanding market impacts that could risk any element of service delivery, regularly engaging with 3rd parties to gain insight and share with the Customer Experience Director

Essential Criteria:

· Previous experience in a Transport Planning role

· Commercially astute, a good understand of what good value looks like, able to confidently challenge spot rates with key suppliers whilst maintaining relationships.

· Experience working in a logistics or office environment

· Can do, positive attitude to change, feedback, and challenges ways of working

· Highly self\-motivated, demonstratable work ethic and thirst for learning

· Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

· Ability to prioritise workloads and use initiative where required

· Experience of delivering business change and cost reduction activity

· Ability to manage conflict, negotiate and achieve the best commercial outcome

· Work in a fast paced, seasonal business, ability to “get the job done” during busy periods and highly motivated to use quieter times to drive business change, process improvement and supplier compliance

· Flexible approach to working hours, especially during busy peaks to ensure the job is always complete.

· Highly capable of working at pace with Microsoft applications including Outlook and Excel

Desirable Criteria:

· Previous Transport Planner/Manager experience

· Knowledge and experience of working with various transport planning tools

· Previous experience in a similar industry

· Landscaping knowledge
