Salary: £37,500 – £42,500 per year (depending on experience)

About GPS Logistics

GPS Logistics is an independent same\-day and dedicated courier company based opposite Heathrow Airport.

We specialise in time\-critical transport, including airfreight, AOG movements, high\-value shipments, and specialist logistics across the UK and Europe.

We are a small, experienced team with strong technical knowledge and a focus on delivering consistently high service levels in a fast\-paced, high\-pressure environment.

The Role

This is a senior, hands\-on operational leadership role responsible for overseeing the transport operation on shift.

You will be responsible for leading the operation in real\-time, ensuring multiple live jobs are managed effectively while supporting and directing the planning team.

You will manage planners and controllers, act as the main escalation point for operational issues, and make decisions that directly impact service delivery and performance.

This role suits an experienced operator who leads from the front, takes ownership, and is confident working in a fast\-paced, time\-critical logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee same\-day and dedicated courier operations across your shift

  • Manage and support transport planners and controllers

  • Act as the primary escalation point for delays, issues, and service failures

  • Ensure jobs are planned, allocated, and executed efficiently

  • Make real\-time decisions to protect service levels and operational performance

  • Monitor team output, accuracy, and efficiency

  • Manage driver\-related issues, performance, and day\-to\-day challenges

  • Liaise with customers, subcontractors, and drivers as required

  • Support operational improvements and reporting alongside senior management

  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, communication, and service delivery
Essential Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years experience in same\-day courier, transport, or freight operations

  • Proven experience managing live, time\-critical operations

  • Previous supervisory or senior operations experience

  • Strong understanding of routing, fleet, and transport planning

  • Confident using Transport Management Systems (TMS), Outlook, and Excel

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

  • Strong attention to detail and sound operational judgement

  • Calm, organised, and decisive under pressure
This Role Is Not Suitable For
  • Entry\-level planners or supervisors

  • Candidates without same\-day courier experience

  • Applicants without leadership or decision\-making responsibility

  • Candidates not comfortable working in a fast\-paced, high\-pressure environment
Mandatory Criteria
  • Must live within 30 minutes of UB7 0EX

  • Full UK Driving Licence (maximum 6 points)

  • 5\-year checkable work history

  • DBS check required

  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
Working Hours

We are primarily recruiting for the early shift, although flexibility is required to support the wider team during holidays and sickness.

  • Early shift: 6:00am – 7:00am start (primary requirement)

  • Additional shifts: 9:00am and 11:00am starts (as required)
Candidates must be able to reliably attend early shifts due to the time\-critical nature of the role.
