Transport & Operations Coordinator
£26,000–£28,000 per year, depending on experience
Full\-time \| Monday–Friday \| No weekends
Earlswood / Solihull
About the role
BMTL Logistics is a growing independent logistics business, and we're looking for the right person to join us as we continue to grow.
You don't need transport experience – we can teach you transport.
What matters more to us is attitude. We're looking for someone who's hardworking, proactive and determined to get things done. Someone who takes pride in their work, picks things up quickly and wants to become genuinely good at what they do.
You'll work closely with us while you learn, with the aim of becoming confident enough to take ownership of your work, use your initiative and make decisions for yourself.
We're a small business, so every person matters. For the right person, this is a chance to learn the operation, make the role your own and build a future with BMTL.
What do we actually do?
We arrange road transport for businesses across the UK.
Our customers give us loads that need moving. We work with our network of hauliers to find the right vehicle, agree a rate and manage the job from collection through to delivery.
That means speaking to customers, hauliers and drivers throughout the day, negotiating rates, keeping on top of multiple jobs, providing updates and sorting things out quickly when plans change.
It's busy, commercial and very people\-focused. Good communication and strong relationships are a big part of what we do.
What you'll be doing
We'll provide full training and teach you how we do things. The role includes:
- Planning and coordinating collections and deliveries across the UK
- Speaking with customers, hauliers and drivers
- Finding suitable hauliers and vehicles to cover loads
- Negotiating rates
- Monitoring live loads, timings and ETAs
- Managing bookings and keeping customers updated
- Building relationships with customers and hauliers
- Keeping our systems and job information accurate and up to date
- Spotting potential problems and finding solutions when plans change
- Managing jobs through from booking to delivery
We're more interested in the person than the CV.
Transport experience would be useful, but it isn't essential. You could come from sales, recruitment, customer service, scheduling, operations or another busy environment and have exactly the sort of skills we're looking for.
What matters to us is that you:
- Work hard and take pride in doing a good job
- Are driven and determined
- Pick things up quickly and put what you've learned into practice
- Use your initiative and take responsibility
- Can think on your feet and solve problems
- Are organised and can juggle several priorities at once
- Are confident with people and aren't afraid to pick up the phone
- Can build relationships and negotiate
- Have good common sense and attention to detail
- Work well as part of a small team and independently
- Want to learn, improve and progress
We don't expect you to walk through the door knowing transport – that's our job to teach you. What we're looking for is someone with the attitude and ability to learn it and make the role their own.
