The Transport Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the transportation operations of the company to ensure efficient, cost\-effective, and timely delivery of furniture products to customers and retail partners. The role requires compliance with UK transport regulations while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational performance.
Job Overview / Objective
We are seeking a highly organised and experienced Transport Manager to lead and coordinate our furniture delivery and distribution operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring efficient, cost\-effective, and compliant transport services while maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction. This role involves managing fleet operations, supervising drivers, and optimising delivery processes to support business growth. Please find the relevant key responsibilities below, not limited to:
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage daily transport operations to ensure timely and efficient delivery of furniture products
- Plan delivery routes, vehicle schedules, and driver allocations to maximise efficiency and minimise costs
- Ensure compliance with all UK transport regulations, including Operator Licence requirements, tachograph rules, and driver hours legislation
- Manage and supervise drivers and transport staff, including recruitment, training, performance monitoring, and disciplinary procedures
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, driver hours, and compliance documentation
- Coordinate servicing, inspections, and repairs to ensure vehicles are safe, compliant, and roadworthy
- Monitor transport KPIs such as delivery performance, fuel efficiency, and operational costs, implementing improvements as needed
- Work closely with warehouse and customer service teams to ensure smooth order fulfilment and high customer satisfaction
- Manage transport budgets, including fuel, maintenance, and staffing costs, identifying cost\-saving opportunities
- Resolve delivery issues and ensure proper handling of furniture to maintain product quality
- Develop and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency and scalability
- Ensure high standards of health \& safety across all transport activities
Essential
· A UK driving license
· Proven experience in a transport, logistics, or fleet management role
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience managing drivers, fleet operations, and transport budgets
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills
- Strong problem\-solving ability and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast\-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Experience within the furniture, retail, or distribution sector
- Relevant qualification in logistics, transport, or business management
- Knowledge of route optimisation and fleet management software
- Experience implementing operational improvements or cost\-saving initiatives
