Reporting To: Operations Manager / Director

Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Transport Coordinator / Yard Manager to oversee our daily logistics and yard operations.

You will be the vital link between our office, drivers, and yard staff, ensuring that vehicle movements are efficient, health and safety standards are strictly met, and stock is managed accurately.

Key ResponsibilitiesTransport Coordination

• Route Planning:


• Plan and schedule daily delivery routes to maximize vehicle efficiency and fuel economy.


• Driver Management:


• Coordinate driver schedules, brief drivers on daily tasks, and monitor compliance with driving hours and regulations.


• Customer Communication:


• Act as the main point of contact for delivery updates, delays, or booking inquiries.


• Compliance \& Maintenance:


• Ensure all fleet vehicles are roadworthy, tracking routine servicing, MOTs, and daily vehicle check sheets.

• Stock Control:


• Oversee the receipt, storage, and dispatch of heavy materials and goods


• Loading \& Unloading:


• Coordinate the safe loading and unloading of incoming supplier deliveries and outgoing customer vehicles.


• Health \& Safety:


• Enforce strict yard safety protocols, ensuring all staff and visitors wear appropriate PPE and follow traffic management rules.


• Housekeeping:


• Maintain a clean, organized, and secure yard environment to prevent accidents and stock damage.

• Proven Experience:


• Minimum 2–3 years working in logistics, transport coordination, or yard management (experience in builder's merchants or heavy supply sectors is a plus).


• Licences:


• A valid Forklift Truck (FLT) licence is highly desirable (Counterbalance/Telehandler).


• Tech\-Savvy:


• Strong computer skills, including experience with transport routing software, vehicle tracking tools, and Excel.


• Geographical Knowledge:


• Excellent knowledge of the local road network around South Wales (M4 corridor, Bridgend, Cardiff, Swansea).


• Communication:


• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage drivers and communicate clearly with trade customers.
