About the role

UK Shutters and Doors Ltd is looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Trainee Industrial Door / Roller Shutter Engineer to join our team.

This is an opportunity to learn a practical trade while working alongside experienced engineers on the installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of industrial doors and roller shutters at commercial and industrial premises.

No previous industrial door or roller shutter experience is required. We are looking for someone with a practical approach, an interest in how things work and a willingness to learn. Previous experience using tools or working in construction, engineering, maintenance or a workshop would be helpful, but is not essential.

Main responsibilities

  • Assist with installations: Help experienced engineers install roller shutters, industrial doors, motors, controls and associated components. Learn how to measure, prepare and assemble equipment correctly.

  • Support servicing and repairs: Attend planned maintenance visits and breakdowns with experienced engineers, helping to inspect equipment, identify worn parts and carry out repairs under supervision.

  • Develop technical skills: Learn how mechanical components, door motors, control systems and safety devices work. Assist with testing and fault\-finding only within your training and under appropriate supervision.

  • Prepare tools, materials and work areas: Help load and unload vehicles, organise equipment and parts, and keep vehicles, tools and customer work areas clean and tidy.

  • Work safely: Follow instructions, company procedures and site rules. Learn safe practices for working at height, handling heavy components and working around powered equipment. Ask for guidance whenever you are unsure.

  • Support customer service and job records: Behave professionally at customer premises, assist with job sheets and photographs, and report progress or problems to the supervising engineer.
What we are looking for
  • A genuine interest in learning a hands\-on engineering trade.

  • A reliable and punctual approach, with a willingness to get involved in practical work.

  • The ability to listen carefully, follow instructions and take feedback positively.

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.

  • Care and attention to detail, with a responsible attitude towards safety, tools and customers’ property.
A full driving licence valid in the UK would be an advantage. Relevant practical experience or a college course in engineering, electrical installation, construction or a related subject would also be beneficial, but is not essential.

Training and development

You will work alongside experienced engineers and receive practical, on\-the\-job training. As your knowledge and confidence develop, you will take on suitable tasks with supervision appropriate to your ability and the work involved.

Training will cover the installation and operation of industrial doors and roller shutters, routine maintenance, mechanical repairs, basic fault\-finding, safe use of tools and equipment, and customer service.

Electrical work and other safety\-critical tasks will only be undertaken within your competence and under appropriate supervision. You will not be expected to carry out unfamiliar or unsafe work without support.

The aim is to help you develop the skills and experience needed to progress towards an Industrial Door / Roller Shutter Engineer role.

Working arrangements

The role involves travelling with the engineering team to customer sites and working in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. Some tasks involve working at height and handling equipment using suitable lifting aids or team assistance.
