Tooling Engineer
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail\-oriented Tooling Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing tooling registers for Spirit, this involves expected tooling remaining, condition, inspection of all tooling either dimensional or visual developing, and maintaining tooling solutions essential for our production processes. Candidates should possess strong mechanical knowledge and experience with various fabrication and machining techniques, including CAD design and tool fabrication. A proactive approach, excellent problem\-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively are essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities
- Manage tooling registers for Spirit, this involves expected tooling remaining, condition, inspection of all tooling either dimensional or visual
- Set up a robust fixture appraisal system for production to be used with regular audits.
- Manage tooling suppliers and delivery dates for new tools or refurbs
- Airbus owned tooling requires repair schemes documenting and approval prior to any refurbs
- Document the tool history, each tool should have a history, date of intro, inspection, repairs / refurbs, storage location
- Take ownership for the repair / replacement of the tooling used on the shop floor
- Key Responsibilities
- Manage and Maintain Customer tooling – read across to RR/MTU if they don’t have their own procedure
- Develop fixture management system and perform shop floor audits – (fixture appraisal no longer in use)
- Manage the repair schemes for tooling – seek approval / document – (no current process)
- Manage tooling at tool makers, liaise with production / NPI / Eng over priority
- Perform Cycle checks for tooling such as drill jigs – (inspection / visual)
- Goven the design of tooling, check sheet prior to going for quotation to ensure it meets all requirements and good practices including Health and Safety.
- Audit sub con tooling and flow down Airbus requirements
- Develop tooling history, possible use Q pulse for assets
- Manage the TRFQ process for replacement tooling due to condition / rate increase – (recover costs) – currently done for Thermal
- Design tooling using Catia when required
- Create basic CMM programs or manual inspection for the measurement of tooling – tooling buy off process
- Time served or relevant experience
- Microsoft Office
- Audit qualification skills
- Self motivated and accountable
- Communication to external customers
- Experience of Catia
- Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of mechanical principles related to tooling design and maintenance
- Skilled in using hand tools and power tools for fabrication tasks
- Familiarity with CAD drafting standards and documentation practices
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately
- Excellent problem\-solving skills with a focus on process optimisation
- Effective communication skills to collaborate across departments effectively
- Experience of CMM desirable but not essential
