Duties
Develop temporary works solutions from initial concept through to detailed design.

Job Summary

As a Temporary Works Designer / Engineer, you will be responsible for the preparation and development of temporary works designs associated with major civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

The role will involve both structural and geotechnical design, with particular emphasis on temporary works associated with bridges, piling works, working platform, stability of the excavations

• Develop temporary works solutions from initial concept through to detailed design.


• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and design risk assessments.


• Carry out structural and geotechnical calculations in accordance with relevant Eurocodes, UK National Annexes and applicable British Standards.


• Design temporary works involving reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber and geotechnical systems.


• Undertake stability, bearing capacity, sliding, overturning, settlement and structural resistance checks as appropriate.


• Assess soil\-structure interaction and ground conditions for temporary works.


• Interpret ground investigation information and develop appropriate geotechnical design parameters.


• Review and assess temporary works proposals prepared by specialist subcontractors and suppliers.


• Liaise with Temporary Works Coordinators, Permanent Works Designers, Design Managers, Site Engineers and construction teams.


• Attend site when required to inspect existing conditions and verify design assumptions.


• Develop practical and buildable solutions taking account of construction methodology, programme, plant, access and site constraints.


• Support the Temporary Works process in accordance with the project Temporary Works Management Plan and relevant procedures.


• Contribute to design reviews, constructability reviews and value engineering exercises.


• Identify design risks, constraints and interfaces at an early stage and develop appropriate mitigation measures.


• Maintain appropriate design records, calculations, drawings and technical documentation.


• Provide technical support to site teams during construction and respond to temporary works queries and design changes.


• Coordinate with external designers and specialist subcontractors where temporary works design is undertaken externally.


• Support the development and continual improvement of Wills Bros temporary works design standards and procedures.

Pay: From £30,000\.00 per year
