Operations Director
The HR Manager is responsible for the effective delivery of all HR operations across the business, ensuring compliance with UK employment law, supporting managers and maintaining a positive and high\-performing workplace culture.
The role will focus on people processes, employee relations, recruitment and compliance, while supporting the development of the organisation’s people capability.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage the full employee lifecycle from recruitment through to exit.
· Oversee onboarding processes to ensure a consistent and professional employee experience.
· Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems.
· Issue contracts, offer letters and employment documentation.
· Manage probation processes and employee confirmations.
· Coordinate recruitment processes across retail and head office functions.
· Work with the Retail Director and department heads to understand hiring needs.
· Manage job postings, candidate screening, and interview coordination.
· Support managers in conducting effective interviews.
· Ensure a strong and consistent candidate experience.
· Act as the first point of contact for HR queries across the business.
· Manage disciplinary, grievance, and absence processes in line with company policy and employment law.
· Support managers in handling performance issues and conduct matters.
· Ensure consistent and fair application of HR policies.
· Liaise with external HR advisors where required.
· Ensure compliance with UK employment law and best practice.
· Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, job descriptions and the employee handbook.
· Ensure GDPR compliance in relation to employee data.
· Support data audits and ensure all documentation is up to date.
· Support the implementation of performance review processes.
· Assist managers with performance management and development planning.
· Coordinate training and development initiatives across the business.
· Support the onboarding and training of retail colleagues utilising the training academy.
Produce regular HR reports, including:
· Headcount
· Colleague turnover
· Recruitment activity
· Absence levels
· Provide insights to support leadership decision\-making.
· Support initiatives to maintain a positive company culture.
· Assist with employee engagement activities and internal communications.
· Promote company values and support leadership in embedding them across the business.
· Liaise with Finance to ensure accurate payroll processing.
· Support administration of employee benefits (e.g. pensions).
· Ensure all employee data required for payroll is accurate and up to date through the HR system.
· Provide HR advice and guidance to the Managing Director, Operations Director and Retail Director.
· Attend leadership meetings where required to provide input on people matters.
· Escalate risks and provide recommendations on HR\-related issues.
Skills \& Experience
Essential:
· Proven experience in an HR generalist or HR Manager role
· Strong understanding of UK employment law
· Experience handling employee relations matters
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Strong organisational and administrative skills
Desirable:
· Working towards or qualified in CIPD Level 5
· Experience in retail or multi\-site environments
