Temporary Data Quality Officer

September 2026 to February 2027

Hybrid working following initial training

Bournemouth

Do you enjoy spotting inconsistencies, solving data puzzles and making sure information is accurate and reliable?

We are recruiting a highly organised and detail-focused Data Quality Officer within the planning department on behalf of our public sector client. Working within the Planning Department, you will support an important project to improve the accuracy and accessibility of local planning records.

You will review and compare information held across different systems, identify and investigate discrepancies, update mapping information using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software and help create a complete and reliable dataset.

You do not need previous GIS experience, as full training and ongoing supervision will be provided. This could be an excellent opportunity for someone interested in developing valuable skills in data management, digital mapping or information systems.

What will you be doing?

  • Reviewing planning records and supporting documents

  • Comparing information across databases, maps and historic records

  • Identifying missing, inaccurate or inconsistent information

  • Updating and improving spatial mapping data using GIS software

  • Correcting data quality issues and maintaining accurate audit trails

  • Supporting the creation of a dataset that meets national publication standards

  • Contributing to project reporting and progress monitoring

  • Working methodically through a high volume of detailed information

What are we looking for?
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

  • The ability to concentrate when reviewing large volumes of information

  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • A methodical and self-motivated approach

  • Confidence using computer systems and learning new software

  • Good written communication and record-keeping skills

  • The ability to identify, investigate and resolve inconsistencies

  • Reliability and a commitment to seeing the project through to completion

  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a wider project team

An interest in data processing, record management, mapping or digital information systems would be advantageous, but enthusiasm, accuracy and a willingness to learn are most important.

Some initial in-person training will be required. Once you are fully trained and established in the role, you will be able to work from home.

This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the quality of local planning information while developing practical data management and digital mapping skills.
