Technical Services Operative
Reporting to: Head of Technical Services
Location: Borehamwood
Arrangements: Monday – Friday (9am-5.30pm) 2 days office based, 3 days on site across London and surroundings.
Salary: Competitive salary DOE.
Key Responsibilities:
The Mobile Maintenance Technician will be responsible for conducting fire door inspection routines and reporting to the Head of Technical Services. Utilising provided equipment, materials, and resources, they will collaborate with team members and contractors to deliver high-quality services.
The Role
As a Technical Services Operative, you will work across multiple residential developments, conducting inspections and reporting on fire safety compliance. You will play a key role in helping ensure buildings remain safe, compliant, and well-maintained.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct quarterly inspections of communal fire doors across residential developments.
- Carry out annual inspections of flat entrance doors in accordance with fire safety requirements.
- Identify defects, damage, wear and tear, and compliance issues.
- Record inspection findings accurately using dedicated digital reporting systems.
- Maintain detailed and auditable records of inspections and actions taken.
- Liaise with Property Managers, contractors, residents, and site teams regarding inspection schedules and findings.
- Support wider fire safety audits and compliance reviews.
- Monitor and report on remedial actions required following inspections.
- Ensure all inspections are completed in line with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Stay up to date with changes in fire safety legislation and industry best practice.
- Attend relevant training and development programmes.
Essential
- Experience working within a technical, maintenance, facilities, construction, or property environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects or compliance concerns.
- Experience following structured processes, procedures, or inspection routines.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads across multiple sites.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage professionally with residents, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Basic understanding of health and safety responsibilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel regularly between sites.
- Experience within residential property management, facilities management, or building maintenance.
- Previous experience in fire door inspections or fire safety compliance.
- Knowledge of building compliance and health & safety legislation.
- Experience using digital inspection or compliance reporting software.
- Understanding of audit and compliance processes.
