Previous experience in a similar role is beneficial; however, candidates with a strong interest in automotive engineering, excellent customer service skills, and a willingness to learn will be fully supported in developing the knowledge required to succeed.
Job Purpose:
To provide exceptional customer service and technical support to retail and trade customers, ensuring accurate order processing, effective product advice, and the promotion of Burlen products and services. The role requires a strong understanding of automotive and mechanical components, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering a high\-quality customer experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service \& Sales:
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer enquiries via telephone, email, and other communication channels.
- Provide technical advice and product guidance to retail and trade customers, supporting informed purchasing decisions.
- Promote relevant products, upgrades, and alternative solutions to maximise sales opportunities and customer satisfaction.
- Advise customers on restoration services, product availability, lead times, and returns procedures.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service at all times.
- Accurately enter customer orders onto the company computer system.
- Process customer orders efficiently through to completion.
- Proactively communicate any order delays, stock shortages, or unavailable parts to customers.
- Ensure all customer records and order information are maintained accurately.
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of Burlen products and services.
- Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support where appropriate.
- Support and assist Sales Assistants in developing product and mechanical knowledge.
- Liaise with the Marketing Department regarding technical information, product data, and customer feedback.
- Transfer customer enquiries to the appropriate department when required.
- Adhere to office procedures and workflow schedules relating to work passed to the Warehouse.
- Escalate significant customer issues or concerns to the Customer Service Manager promptly.
- Assist other departments during periods of increased workload.
- Report unsafe working practices, hazards, or faulty equipment immediately.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and terms and conditions of employment.
- Previous experience in a customer service, sales, or technical support environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of automotive components.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to customers with varying levels of knowledge.
- Good IT skills and experience using order processing or CRM systems.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively in a fast\-paced environment.
- Experience within the automotive, engineering, classic vehicle, or parts supply industry.
- Knowledge of carburettors, fuel systems, or restoration services.
- Experience training or mentoring colleagues.
- Prompt answering of incoming telephone calls with minimal abandoned calls.
- Accurate and efficient processing of customer orders.
- Achievement and maintenance of high customer service standards.
- Timely and accurate response to customer emails and enquiries.
- Effective escalation of issues requiring management attention.
- Successful identification of upselling and cross\-selling opportunities.
- Maintenance of product knowledge and technical competence.
- Positive customer feedback and resolution of customer enquiries.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics.
- Technical, automotive, engineering, or mechanical qualification.
- Customer service or sales\-related qualifications
