About Datheon

Datheon is looking for a technically driven Technical Consultant to join our platform engineering team in Manchester.

This role is focused on building and improving modern cloud and data platforms, with particular emphasis on Snowflake, Terraform and GitLab. You'll work across infrastructure, automation, CI/CD and data platform engineering to deliver secure, scalable and repeatable technology solutions.

We're looking for someone who understands that modern platform engineering is about more than simply maintaining infrastructure. It's about creating automated, reliable and developer\-friendly platforms that enable engineering and data teams to deliver quickly and safely.

The role

As a Technical Consultant, you will take a hands\-on role in designing, implementing and supporting platform infrastructure and data environments.

You'll work extensively with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and cloud\-based data platforms, helping to standardise environments and remove manual processes through automation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and implementing scalable platform engineering solutions.


• Building and maintaining infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code principles.


• Developing reusable Terraform modules and deployment patterns.


• Designing and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test and deployment processes.


• Managing source control, branching strategies and automated delivery workflows through GitLab.


• Supporting the implementation and operation of Snowflake environments.


• Automating Snowflake infrastructure, configuration and deployment wherever appropriate.


• Establishing repeatable patterns for provisioning cloud and data\-platform resources.


• Working across development, infrastructure and data engineering teams to improve delivery.


• Implementing appropriate security, identity, access control and governance practices.


• Troubleshooting infrastructure, pipeline and platform issues.


• Improving platform reliability, scalability, observability and operational efficiency.


• Creating technical documentation and reusable engineering standards.


• Identifying opportunities to replace manual processes with automation.


• Contributing to technical architecture and platform engineering decisions.

What we're looking for

We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong practical experience across platform engineering, infrastructure automation and modern data platforms.

You'll ideally have:

• An MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, IT or a related discipline.


• Strong practical understanding of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.


• Hands\-on experience with GitLab and GitLab CI/CD.


• Experience working with Snowflake or comparable cloud data platforms.


• Understanding of cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices.


• Experience automating infrastructure and deployment processes.


• Good understanding of Git\-based development workflows.


• Strong scripting or programming capability, particularly Python or Bash.


• Understanding of cloud security, networking, identity and access management.


• The ability to diagnose complex technical problems and develop practical solutions.


• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical stakeholders.

Advantageous experience

Experience with any of the following would be highly beneficial:

• AWS, Azure or Google Cloud


• Kubernetes and containerised platforms


• Python automation


• SQL
