Team Leader Network Operational Center
POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently looking to hire a Network Operations Center (NOC) Team Leader for our RIBON IP/ Optical NOC in Germany..
The position is responsible for managing a 24x7 team that monitors customer IP \& Optical networks and facilitates the incident and problem management process, including escalations to higher tiers.
This role serves as the critical bridge between tier\-1/2 engineers and management, ensuring strict SLA compliance
The Team Leader for an IP/Optical NOC manages a 24/7 technical team that responds to system\-generated Alarms and/or notifications from customers and is responsible for handling those from creation through to resolution.
This role plays an important part in the technical aspects of the ITIL service delivery. This may be focused on one or more of Operational Strategy, Incident Management, Change Management, Service Requests, Event Management and Problem Management. The position is responsible for maintaining and developing the technical skills required to provide these services to our customers in accordance with our performance.
Qualified candidates will be dedicated to enhancing the Ribbon NOC team and will work under the guidance of experienced staff.
The role is based in Oberursel, Germany, and may require the ability to travel.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a Team of NOC Operators / NOC L1 engineers
- Ensure strict adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for incident response and restoration.
- Interface with higher Tier (L2\) for problem resolution and support
- Own and drive the end\-to\-end incident management lifecycle for high\-severity IP/Optical network outages and degradations.
- Act as the final technical escalation point for the team.
- Communicate effectively with executive leadership, clients, and cross\-functional teams during major outages.
- Provide direct line management for NOC engineers, including shift rostering, performance reviews, and mentorship.
- Facilitate continuous training on evolving optical and routing technologies.
- Champion a strong team culture, ensuring thorough and accurate shift handovers.
- Oversee proactive monitoring of the IP/MPLS infrastructure and Optical transport networks (DWDM, ROADM, EDFA amplifiers).
- Review and approve Methods of Procedure (MOP) and Change Requests (CRQ) to minimize service impact during network changes.
- Conduct Post\-Incident Reviews (PIR) to determine root causes and prevent outages from recurring.
- Provide escalation support for operations issues
- The preparation of equipment configurations and support approved changes within the network
- Development and maintenance of monitoring and fault diagnosis procedures to support effective fault identification
- Interface with higher\-tier Technical Support and Engineering departments to address customers’ issues in the most effective manner
- Knowledge transfer, executing internal training
- BSc in Telecommunications / IP Networking
- Basic understanding of ITIL Framework
- Optical Knowledge: Hands\-on expertise in optical networking principles (DWDM, OTN, OSNR, chromatic dispersion) and FCAPS functionalities.
- Tools \& Systems: Proficiency with Network Management Systems (NMS) and ticketing tools (ITSM, Salesforce, Jira Service Management).
- Technical expertise in Microsoft WPS, Collaboration Services (MS Teams, MS Exchange, OneDrive), Azure, and on\-premises networks.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring and management tools.
- Problem\-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with ITIL or other service management frameworks.
- Language skills: Fluent in German and English (writing and speaking)
- Experience in IP and Voice Networks for Telecommunications – *Advantage*
- Solid operating system knowledge (Linux, Solaris)
- Basic experience with Cloud Computing Platforms such as AWS, AZ, and or GCP
