Henshaws is a northern charity supporting people living with sight loss and a range of other disabilities to go beyond expectations. Our support, advice and training enables people and their families build skills, develop confidence, help each other and look forward to a more positive future.

Position:
-------------

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference every day?

At Henshaws, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to be seen, heard and supported to thrive. Guided by our values of Respect, Empowerment and Ambition, we support people to build confidence, develop skills, increase independence and achieve goals that matter to them.

We're looking for a caring and enthusiastic Support Worker to join our Arts \& Crafts Centre team in Knaresborough, supporting adults with disabilities to engage in creative activities, express themselves and reach their full potential.

This is much more than a job. It's an opportunity to be part of someone's journey, celebrate achievements and help people discover what they can achieve.

About Henshaws Arts \& Crafts Centre

Creativity is at the heart of everything we do.

Our Arts \& Crafts Centre provides a vibrant and inspiring environment where adults with disabilities can explore their talents, develop independence, build friendships and play an active role within their communities.

Every day, our Art Makers take part in activities that encourage creativity, learning, self\-expression and personal growth. As a Support Worker, you'll play a key role in helping them gain the confidence, skills and opportunities to achieve their aspirations.

About the Role

As a Support Worker, you will provide person\-centred support to Art Makers attending a range of creative workshops, including art, crafts and music.

Every individual is unique, and the support you provide will reflect their personal goals, interests and support needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Encouraging Art Makers to participate in activities and embrace new experiences.

  • Supporting people to communicate their wishes, make choices and have their voices heard.

  • Promoting independence and helping individuals develop confidence and life skills.

  • Providing emotional support, reassurance and encouragement.

  • Supporting with mobility, personal care, eating and drinking where required.

  • Following support plans, risk assessments and agreed ways of working.

  • Working alongside Workshop Leaders and the wider team to deliver meaningful experiences.

  • Promoting dignity, inclusion, wellbeing and safety at all times.

  • Building positive relationships with Art Makers, families and colleagues.

  • Celebrating achievements and milestones, however big or small.
No two days are ever the same, but every day offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on someone's life.

You don't need to be an artist or musician to succeed in this role. What matters most is your commitment to supporting others and your willingness to learn, get involved and make a difference.

About You

We're looking for someone who shares our values and is passionate about helping others succeed.

You will be:

  • Caring, compassionate and patient.

  • Friendly, approachable and able to build positive relationships.

  • Respectful of individual differences, choices and aspirations.

  • Committed to promoting dignity, inclusion and independence.

  • A positive and encouraging communicator.

  • Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Adaptable and responsive to individual support needs.

  • Eager to learn and develop new skills.

  • Someone who believes in people's potential and enjoys helping them achieve their goals.
Experience in care, support work, education or supporting adults with disabilities would be beneficial, but it is not essential.

At Henshaws, we believe that values, attitude and potential are just as important as experience. If you share our commitment to Respect, Empowerment and Ambition, we'll provide the training and support you need to succeed.
