We are currently recruiting for a support worker, to provide help and support to an individual with an acquired brain injury.
The client as a young man with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, he lives at home with his parents, pet dog and enjoys spending time with his family. He enjoys watching Bristol City FC, going to the zoo, doing craft activities, having afternoons in hydrotherapy and spending time at a community support centre. He occasionally uses eye\-gaze to communicate and interact, although mainly for games.
The 24\-hour shifts will be a mixture of weekdays, weekends and sleep\-in nights. You must be prepared to work 1\-2 days over a weekend per month.
The purpose of the support worker is to facilitate the client’s independence, whilst ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the client.
The client requires two to one assistance daily, needs medication administered, is PEG fed and requires personal care. Support is provided in the client’s home and during leisure and social activities.
Skills and Duties will include:
· Following the health and wellbeing plan as documented for the client.
· Encouraging the client’s independence as far as possible.
· Working as part of a team and communicating appropriately with fellow team members.
· Participation in manual handling procedures as specified for the client.
· Ensuring that opportunity is given to participate in activities as identified
· Delivering programmes of educational, social and therapeutic development if required as directed by the relevant professionals.
· Awareness of any significant changes in the client’s health, functioning or behaviour, and informing the case manager and team leader as appropriate.
· Awareness of the client’s vulnerability and taking precautions to protect it.
· To provide the opportunity for the client to follow therapeutic guidelines if in place.
· To safely handle and administer medication to the client as required
· Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) feeding
· Personal care
Qualifications and Experience Required:
As a minimum, applicants will be expected to have experience of caring for people with complex physical or learning disabilities.
NVQ level 2 in health and social care is desirable.
First Aid training will be required and applicants with a recent first aid qualification are desirable
The ability to use IT systems, such as email, intranet and electronic records is essential.
A full driving license is essential, as the support worker will be required to drive the client.
A patient, warm, caring, reliable and trustworthy person is needed who can work as part of a team. Training, supervision and support will be provided as required.
An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.
Salary:
£13\.65 per hour weekdays
£14\.70 per hour weekends
Sleep shift (8 hrs) paid at £12\.71 per hour
