This busy region sees 1\.3 million daily passengers and moves 700,000 tonnes of freight weekly, with 571 stations making up a quarter of Britain's rail network.

About the role

What will you be doing?
Join the North West Route Infrastructure Engineering team this summer for a 10 week placement where you'll make a real impact on how critical rail assets are understood and managed.
This is more than just a placement \- you'll get hands\-on experience working with live engineering data and inspection records, helping to improve the accuracy and visibility of key assets like retaining walls. You will play a key role in connecting vital systems, ensuring the railway's infrastructure is captured, maintained, and managed effectively.
You'll also contribute to an exciting trial project, using imagery and examination data to identify and catalogue rock slope features \- supporting the development of smarter inspection and maintenance strategies.

Your experience and skills

Who you are matters
You'll need to be in your penultimate year at university, and on track to achieve at least a 2:2 in any degree subject.
We look for inquisitive self\-starters with a strong work ethic and the confidence to challenge how things are done. You should have an eye for detail with the ability to approach problems with a calm approach. Other qualities we're looking for include:
- Strong organisation skills
- Good teamwork
- Interest / studying an Engineering discipline
- Ability to empathise and strong emotional intelligence
- Strong personal resilience
