Structural Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail\-oriented Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, analysing, and overseeing the construction of various structural projects, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. Due to continued expansion and increasing instruction volumes, we are currently looking to appoint a qualified and experienced Structural Engineer to work alongside our growing family\-run surveying practice.
The role will primarily involve coverage throughout the midlands regions; however, applicants must also be willing to travel further nationally where required to accommodate workload demand and specialist instructions.
Duties
- Structural movement and cracking investigations
- Subsidence and settlement assessments
- Lintel failure investigations
- Structural opening designs
- Roof structure assessments
- General residential structural defect diagnosis and additional reports to accompany surveys for mortgage companies
- Chimney breast/supporting wall/extensions inspections and calculations
- Oversee the entire construction process, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety regulations.
- Prepare technical reports, drawings, and documentation for review and approval.
- Collaborate with project management teams to plan resources and schedules effectively.
- Review construction plans and specifications to identify potential issues or improvements.
- Utilise system design principles to develop innovative solutions for complex structural challenges.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related field; a recognised professional qualification is preferred.
- Proven experience in structural design and project management within the civil engineering sector.
- Proficiency in CAD software including AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and general CAD applications.
- Strong knowledge of system design principles and construction processes.
- Experience with structural analysis tools such as Mathcad is desirable.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Good communication skills for liaising with clients, contractors, and team members.
- Membership of a recognised engineering institution (e.g., ICE) is advantageous but not essential. We are currently considering a fee sharing arrangement based around:
\-70% of instruction fees paid directly to the engineer plus additional to cover expensed where required
\-alternative structures may be considered depending on experienc, specialist expertise and coverage capability
