About Community\-sauna CIC

Community Sauna Baths is a not\-for\-profit organisation on a simple mission: to make sauna and cold plunge affordable, accessible, inclusive and local. We operate community saunas in Camberwell, Hackney Wick, Peckham, Stratford and Walthamstow alongside initiatives that provide free or discounted sessions for people who need them most. Our ambition is to open a Community Sauna in every London borough within five years.We care deeply about how we operate, prioritising safety, warmth, welcome and a genuinely good experience for everyone who walks through the door.

Role Purpose

The Site Manager is accountable for the day\-to\-day running of the site: leading the on\-site team, delivering a safe and excellent customer experience, keeping the site and its equipment safe and audit\-ready, and making sure the site hits its operational and commercial targets. You'll be the senior person on site — the standard you set is the standard the site runs at.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership

  • Hold regular 1\-to\-1s with direct reports giving constructive feedback and clear goals

  • Delegate appropriately ensuring follow up, timelines and accountability

  • Own rota management and hours, keeping cover and labour cost in balance \- ensure dynamic rota making appropriate adjustments related to seasonal demand

  • Manage sickness, holiday and cover levels across the team

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding and induction for new starters on site

  • Manage underperformance fairly and promptly, working with HR where needed
Development \& Culture
  • Build environment of ongoing training and development opportunities for team members to support growth

  • Model the standards you expect from others.

  • Contribute new ideas to improve the site and the wider business.

  • Create a climate where issues get raised early, not hidden.
Customer \& Issue Handling
  • Resolve customer complaints on site, first time where possible.

  • Escalate the right issues at the right time

  • Stay calm and solution\-focused during a customer or team conflict.

  • Understand and correctly apply the incident and reporting process.

  • Track customer feedback scores and act on them in good time.
Communication
  • Run clear, useful team meetings and briefings as appropriate (at least once a quarter).

  • Communicate changes — schedule, policy, priorities — proactively, not after the fact.

  • Listen to concerns before responding or deciding.

  • Respond to team questions and issues proactively.

  • Clearly explain the reasons behind decisions to the team and reinforce messaging from Senior Leadership.

  • Escalate upwards when required, with the right context.
Operational Execution
  • Meet site standards for safety, quality, productivity and cost.

  • Organised and plans ahead rather than firefighting day to day.

  • Know all site systems (e.g. Zettle, Periode, Trail) well enough to use and troubleshoot them.

  • Manage the site budget and control costs against target.

  • Project manage and communicate scheduling and events well in advance.

  • Work with Marketing and Outreach teams to grow local customer base \- connect into community and be responsible for increasing site awareness locally
Physical Site \& Equipment
  • Know the correct operating procedures for site equipment and machinery, including saunas and plunge facilities.

  • Ensure equipment maintenance and safety checks happen on schedule, working with Estates \+ Infrastructure team.

  • Identify and correct site hazards before they cause an incident, managing workload with the Estates \& Infrastructure (E\&I) team.

  • Keep the site audit\-ready at all times — housekeeping, signage, access, storage.

  • Keep risk assessments up to date.

  • Control stock, including first aid supplies and merchandise, with timely ordering.

  • Ensure daily site logs and incident reports are completed and kept up to date.
Company Policy Knowledge
  • Explain and correctly apply HR policy — leave, conduct, disciplinary.

  • Follow health \& safety policy and the required reporting procedures.

  • Apply customer\-facing policy correctly and consistently.

  • Complete all required training on time.

  • Build strong working knowledge of sauna management and practices.

  • Keep up to date as policies change, and brief the team accordingly.
Person SpecificationEssential
  • Experience managing a customer\-facing site or team — hospitality, leisure, spa, retail or similar.

  • Experience leading, coaching and developing a team, including rota and performance management.

  • A confident, calm communicator who handles complaints and conflict well under pressure.

  • Comfortable managing budgets and learning new operating systems.

  • Working knowledge of health \& safety, risk assessment and incident reporting.

  • Flexibility to work a changing shift pattern including early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

  • First Aid at Work and Fire Marshall certificate, or willingness to complete one before starting.
Desirable
  • Experience operating or maintaining sauna, spa, pool or other wellness facilities and plant.

  • Experience using saunas

  • Experience working in a fast\-growing hospitality, leisure or wellness business.
Working Environment \& Physical Demands
  • Outdoor work environment operating in all weather conditions

  • Regular standing, walking and light manual handling (stock, fuel, equipment).

  • Site operates 7 days a week; this role includes a share of weekend and bank holiday working

  • Flexible hours responding to needs and demands of the site
