Strategic Project Manager
The Strategic Project Manager is responsible for the safe, commercially successful, and customer\-focused delivery of Fire \& Security installation projects, typically ranging from £50,000 to £1 million in value. This is a predominantly site\-based role, requiring a visible presence across live project locations to oversee delivery, coordinate teams, manage stakeholders, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
This role would suit an experienced Project Manager with a strong technical background in Fire \& Security systems, or a senior engineer looking to progress into a project leadership role.
Key Responsibilities* Manage multiple Fire \& Security installation projects from mobilisation through to completion and handover.
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers, contractors, and key stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Lead and coordinate engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and specialist resources to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual requirements, technical specifications, customer expectations, and company standards.
- Maintain effective project programmes, monitoring progress and implementing corrective actions where required.
- Manage project risks, actions, dependencies, decisions, and close\-out activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee defect resolution, remedial works, snagging activities, and final project completion.
- Monitor project performance including budgets, forecasts, work in progress (WIP), applications for payment, and invoicing readiness.
- Manage project costs, commercial risks, scope changes, and completion\-to\-invoice activities.
- Ensure projects comply with company procedures, customer requirements, and relevant industry standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by sharing best practice and lessons learned across the wider team.
- Take responsibility for site coordination, including inductions, permits, access arrangements, toolbox talks, welfare, logistics, and daily site activities.
- Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Confirm duty\-holder responsibilities are clearly defined and understood on each project.
- Where appointed, support Principal Contractor responsibilities and construction phase management.
- Ensure Construction Phase Plans, RAMS, competence assessments, subcontractor controls, and inspection regimes are in place and maintained.
- Conduct regular site inspections covering safety, quality, progress, workmanship, programme performance, and customer impact.
- Escalate or stop works where safety, compliance, competence, design information, or site readiness requirements are not met.
- Strong technical background in fire alarms, electronic security, integrated systems, or related disciplines.
- Experience delivering large\-scale commercial or enterprise\-level projects.
- Demonstrable experience managing site\-based project delivery, including subcontractors, engineers, and customer interfaces.
- Strong understanding of CDM 2015 regulations, construction phase planning, and site compliance requirements.
- IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS, or an equivalent construction health \& safety qualification.
- Good understanding of IP\-based and networked security systems.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, forecasts, WIP, and project controls.
- Excellent organisation, planning, and problem\-solving skills.
- Professional communicator with strong customer and stakeholder management abilities.
- Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel to project sites nationally.
- Knowledge of Fire \& Security industry standards, regulations, and best practice.
- Experience with project financial management, payment applications, forecasting, and invoicing processes.
- Experience mentoring engineers, developing project teams, and contributing to operational improvement initiatives.
