Overview
Auchingarrich Wildlife \& Adventure Park is a family\-owned wildlife park caring for almost 200 animals, including both exotic and traditional farm species. Alongside our animal collection, the park offers a range of family attractions including soft play, go\-karts and themed birthday experiences.
The park is supported by a small team of permanent staff and a large network of dedicated volunteers. Our goal is to provide high standards of animal welfare, conservation awareness and visitor engagement in a welcoming rural environment.
We are seeking an experienced Hoofstock Keeper to join our animal care team and contribute to the daily management and welfare of our hoofstock collection.
The role
This is a hands\-on animal care position responsible for supporting the husbandry, health monitoring and management of the park’s hoofstock species, while maintaining high standards of enclosure presentation and biosecurity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Daily husbandry and care of hoofstock species, including feeding, mucking out and bedding management
- Preparation and provision of appropriate diets in accordance with established feeding protocols
- Monitoring animal health, behaviour and condition, and promptly reporting any concerns to senior staff
- Maintaining clean, safe and secure enclosures, paddocks and holding areas
- Carrying out routine enclosure inspections, including fencing and infrastructure checks
- Assisting with animal handling, veterinary treatments and health checks where required
- Maintaining accurate husbandry records and documentation
- Adhering to strict biosecurity, health and safety and animal welfare standards
- Supporting the wider animal team with general husbandry duties across other sections when required
- Positively engaging with visitors and answering appropriate questions about the animals and the park
Essential:
- Practical experience working with hoofstock, livestock or similar large animal species
- Strong understanding of animal welfare and husbandry practices
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team
- Good observational skills and attention to detail regarding animal health and behaviour
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Full driving license
- Qualification in Animal Management, Zoo Animal Management, Agriculture or related field
- Previous experience within a zoo, wildlife park or farm environment
- Experience with paddock management
- Reliable, responsible and professional
- Calm and confident when working with animals
- Strong work ethic and willingness to undertake physical tasks
- Positive attitude and flexible approach to duties
- Commitment to maintaining high animal welfare standards
- Outdoor role in a rural setting
- Early starts, weekends and bank holiday work will be required
- Role involves lifting, bending and other physical tasks
- Work will be undertaken in varied weather conditions
Pay: £12\.71 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Crieff PH6: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
