<p data-pm-slice="1 3 []">The New York Times is looking for a Staff Product Designer with <span class="hl-blue-solid replace_or_delete" data-highlight-id="c2a0d26b14f79ebaf0f089526f2dee7f-0">strong</span> UX, product and editorial experience who uses prototyping to elucidate where AI adds value for our users.</p>
<p>The New A.I. Products and Platforms (NAPP) mission is a critical, company-wide initiative tasked with building the next generation of A.I.-powered products to accelerate The New York Times's essential subscription strategy..</p>
<p>As a Staff Product Designer <span class="hl-green-solid warn" data-highlight-id="d90f6bc9672518ea23478ded205f7140-0">you'll</span> use editorial and design judgment to imagine and prototype AI-powered editorial experiences while upholding the highest levels of journalistic and product excellence.</p>
<p><span class="hl-green-solid warn" data-highlight-id="614fb114479c0c2bb10c6a888d1fcdf8-0">You'll</span> work with teams to uncover opportunities to deliver better experiences to our readers using A.I., across our bundle of connected products. <span class="hl-green-solid warn" data-highlight-id="fec22a7bbca03c0e1fee1fff3de28718-0">You'll</span> create and validate prototypes that meet users' informational needs and align with our brand aesthetic and values. <span class="hl-green-solid warn" data-highlight-id="dba5969b06f5845a8eb5368ce45b5618-0">You'll</span> create clarity by building, showing your product and newsroom partners what's possible with A.I.</p>

<p>Your role will combine elements of product design, product strategy, editorial sense, and engineering. This role is well suited for someone who is comfortable navigating ambiguity, brings curiosity and initiative to their work, and enjoys collaborating with subject matter experts across The Times.</p>

<p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>

<p>Collaborate with product teams across The Times to identify smart opportunities to integrate A.I. into their products and features.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Imagine concepts for delivering new A.I.-powered experiences for NYT users.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Use quantitative data and qualitative research to inform design decisions.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Create clear prototypes of these concepts to validate desirability, feasibility, and usability.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Use prototypes to lead conversations and set direction with NAPP's leadership team and, in turn, influence our broader A.I. strategy.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Represent your work to leadership within the company.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Work with engineering teams in an Agile development environment.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Champion A.I. <span class="hl-blue-solid replace_or_delete" data-highlight-id="5eb97371a7007b9d901bf43e5e38eee8-0">innovation</span> and ethics: Stay up to date with industry trends, LLM advancements, and <span class="hl-blue-solid replace" data-highlight-id="01866134d23dd6671136729d424fb6e3-0">emerging</span> technologies. <span class="hl-blue-solid replace_or_delete" data-highlight-id="5ddb6caa2f8b67be3d4c1a938521ea07-0">Champion</span> the ethical and responsible use of AI, ensuring our tools uphold our standards of accuracy and objectivity.</p>

<p><span class="hl-blue-solid replace_or_delete" data-highlight-id="3d69e7e52ea75e73a5f938529bc9d24d-0">Own</span> evaluation for quality and editorial <span class="hl-red-solid replace_or_delete" data-highlight-id="abfa2e1bfae7ba2a710d6cc09cbf1db3-0">integrity</span>: Create frameworks to assess the success of A.I. prototypes and products.</p>

<p><strong>Basic Qualifications</strong><span style="font-weight: 400;">:</span></p>

<p>7+ years of experience as a product manager or product designer, with recent experience creating coded prototypes using AI-enabled tools and workflows.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>7+ years of experience collaborating with editorial or product teams to deliver experiences that users love and return to.</p>
</li>
<li>Case studies / portfolio of shipped work demonstrating experience working in 0-to-1 environments where requirements change often.</li>
<li>
<p>Experience designing user experiences that use AI/LLM.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Experience refining AI's tone, format, and behavior to align with brand guidelines and product quality benchmarks.</p>
</li>
</ul>
