Location: Whiteford House, Ayr

We are looking for a compassionate, motivated and dedicated Nightshift Staff Nurse to join our experienced team at our 31\-bedded specialist care home in Ayr.

Whiteford House provides specialist care and support to adults under the age of 65 with a range of complex health and social care needs, including:

  • Mental health needs

  • Learning disabilities

  • Complex physical and neurological conditions

About the Role

As a Nightshift Staff Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective and high\-quality nursing care throughout the night.

You will support residents with complex clinical, physical and emotional needs, ensuring their care is delivered with compassion, dignity and respect. You will also work closely with the wider care team to promote independence, wellbeing and positive outcomes for the people we support.

The successful candidate will be confident working independently during night shifts while providing guidance and support to the wider care team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, effective and person\-centred nursing care throughout the night.

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for residents with complex needs.

  • Administer medication and treatments safely in line with NMC standards and company policies.

  • Monitor residents' physical and mental health and respond appropriately to any changes in their condition.

  • Provide compassionate care while maintaining residents' dignity, privacy, choice and independence.

  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to care staff during night duty.

  • Maintain accurate and up\-to\-date clinical documentation and care records.

  • Liaise with families, GPs, multidisciplinary teams and other healthcare professionals where required.

  • Promote high standards of safeguarding, infection prevention and health and safety.

  • Participate in handovers and contribute to care planning, reviews and risk assessments.

  • Support residents experiencing behaviours of distress or mental health challenges using positive, person\-centred and therapeutic approaches.

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and escalate concerns in accordance with clinical and organisational procedures.
Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Registered Nurse qualification – RGN, RMN or RNLD.

  • Current NMC registration.

  • Experience working within a care home, complex care, mental health, learning disability or neurological care setting.

  • Strong clinical assessment and medication management skills.

  • Ability to work confidently and independently during night shifts.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • A compassionate, patient\-centred approach.

  • Strong commitment to delivering high\-quality care.
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of neurological conditions and complex care.

  • Understanding of positive behavioural support approaches.

  • Previous leadership or shift\-leading experience.

  • Training or experience in PEG feeding, epilepsy management or other complex care interventions.
