Staff Accountant, Payroll
Overview:
The Payroll Accountant is a key member of the EMEA Finance team and plays a critical role in accounting for the company’s largest and most valuable asset—its associates. This role partners closely with Payroll, HR, and Finance teams to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of payroll‑related financial reporting across approximately 15 EMEA countries, providing meaningful insight into the operating retail business.
The Payroll Accountant contributes significantly to the month‑end close process through precise payroll accounting, reconciliations, and analysis, while also taking initiative to influence and advise stakeholders on payroll accounting, controls, and compliance matters. In addition to core accounting responsibilities, the role supports variance analysis, accruals, and forecasting related to payroll expenses, helping ensure transparency and financial accuracy.
A key aspect of the role is identifying opportunities to improve payroll accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies across both finance and business functions, and actively driving these enhancements to completion. Success in this role requires strong business partnering skills, attention to detail, and a continuous‑improvement mindset.

Responsibilities:
- Perform month, quarterly and year end closings activities by preparing journal entries to record the payroll activity.
- Partner effectively with the FP\&A Wages, Payroll operations and HR (finance and non\-finance) to ensure financial records are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and analytical review based on the entries booked during the month end close and prepares subsequent events to evaluate the accuracy of the entries
- Participate in performance and departmental improvement projects.
- Participate and prepare for internal and external audits.
- Might be required to perform additional Reporting duties as assigned by Manager.
- (HBO) Bachelor or Master of Accounting, Business Administration or Business Economy \- Finance Focus
- Knowledge and understanding of accounting
- Knowledge/exposure to FP\&A (business controls) preferred
- Fluent in English, both written and oral.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and data analytical/manipulation skills
- Minimum 1\-3 years relevant work experience in an international company work environment
- Enthusiastic and eager to learn with a practical (hands\-on) mentality.
- Able to work independently but is not afraid to ask questions/guidance.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the Netherlands.
