About the position

A 9\-month full\-time position as special engineer is available in the research group “Receptors, Signalling and Cardiac Pharmacology” led by Prof. Finn Olav Levy at Department of Pharmacology, Oslo University Hospital. The group studies signalling mechanisms in normal and failing hearts with the aim to develop new treatment for heart diseases.

We are looking for a highly motivated coworker with an interest in cardiac pharmacology and translational research. The candidate will work on a project to study potential new treatment of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). The project will involve work with animal models of heart failure, including in vivo and ex vivo experiments. The candidate will perform contractility experiments on cardiac muscle strips and cardiac cells, work with rodent animal models of heart failure and use various molecular and pharmacological techniques in combination with various in vivo experiments including treatment for HFpEF.

The candidate is expected to work with national and international collaborators, within an enthusiastic research environment that offers an exciting possibility to combine ambitious scientific projects with active career development at international level for the hired candidate. An extension of the contract may be considered.

Qualifications
------------------

We are looking for a highly motivated, hard\-working and organized candidate with the ability to work both alone and in teams. The successful candidate should have a genuine interest in research.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has experience and practical skills working with research animals (requirement)

  • Education level: minimum master\`s degree in Pharmacology, Biology, Pharmacy or similar

  • Has extensive experience and practical skills in contractility measurements in cardiac muscle strips and cardiomyocytes (requirement)

  • Has experience and practical skills in molecular biology (requirement)

  • Has experience and practical skills in cell culture work, including preparation of primary cultures of cardiac cells as well as transfection/transduction of cells with different vectors (requirement)

  • Has experience with FRET imaging of cells (requirement)

  • Is fluent in oral and written English (advantage)
