Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics and Medical Education

The NHS Lanarkshire Directorate of Medical Education, in conjunction with Paediatrics, seeks to appoint an enthusiastic individual to assist in the delivery of Paediatrics teaching. The post would ideally suit any trainee with paediatric experience up to CT2 or equivalent. The post holder will contribute to a team of Specialty doctors and Clinical Teaching Fellows (including out of hours) within Medical Education in NHS Lanarkshire. This is a substantive post.

The post is appointed in conjunction with clinical service, with an equal 50:50 split in sessions between clinical and teaching commitments. The post is appointed with the clinical component supporting the NHS Lanarkshire Paediatrics and the teaching component is primarily aimed at Paediatrics.

A regular contribution to other teaching, including simulation, multi\-disciplinary teaching and supporting the Widening Access to Medicine Programme will also be expected. Due to simulation faculty requirements a nominal 0\.5 days per week will be allocated to simulation teaching activity. This will be on a flexible basis as the teaching calendar directs.

Allocation of site specific clinical and teaching duties will be outlined in each post holder’s job plan organised by the SPC Clinical Director, Undergraduate Paediatric Medicine Lead, site Hospital Sub Dean, Associate Director of Medical Education and Simulation Lead.

The post\-holders are expected to undertake personal study in the field of Medical Education dependent on previous educational qualification and, in particular, to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education (preferred provider Dundee University). Paid time during working hours is provided to enable this (max.1 session), supported by 50 % fees paid by Medical education.

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non\-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well\-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research \& Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager (provide contacts) who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements
