Speciality Doctor Haematology
The is a post within the Cancer Division forming part of the Haematology Service within the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Critical elements of the role include: \-
1\. Supervision and care of haematology patients receiving treatment in Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
2\. Assessment and advice to clinical teams caring for haematology patients admitted under the
care of general physicians/ surgeons.
3\. Teaching of medical undergraduates.
4\. Carrying out departmental audits.
5\. Undertaking Clinical Research under supervision.
Applicants should have completed at least 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent on a part time basis), at least 2 of which will be in a training programme in a relevant or as a fixed term trainee in a relevant , or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
Main duties of the job
This is a part time post working within the Cancer Division with clinical responsibility to the Department of Haematology. The duties will be those of a middle grade doctor, and will include ward work, supervision of junior colleagues, teaching of medical students, attendance at outpatient clinics, and haemato\-oncology referral duties within the hospital. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the service providing invasive procedures for haematology patients, including bone marrow biopsies, lumbar puncture with intrathecal chemotherapy and central venous catheter insertion.
All candidates should be eligible for registration with the GMC. MRCP and some experience in Haematology are highly desirable. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that the candidate provide written confirmation from the Royal College and attach this to their application. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties
1\. To work under the supervision of the haematology consultants.
2\. Provision of cover for annual and study leave will be subject to agreement within the job planning process.
3\. They will undertake an annual job plan review in conjunction with the clinical director and general manager with intervention from staff side should agreement not be reached.
4\. They will undertake an annual appraisal in accordance with GMC guidance on revalidation.
5\. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team within haematology to care for haematology patients being treated in the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Duties will include assisting chemotherapy trained nurses in administration of chemotherapy treatment, insertion of IV lines for central venous access, lumbar punctures and bone marrow biopsies.
6\. Advise on the care of haematology inpatients.
7\. Participate in undergraduate and post\-graduate teaching and training.
