Special Needs Learning Support Assistant - Dorking - Surrey

Are you a recent or soon-to-be graduate in Psychology, Criminology, or Sociology looking to gain hands-on experience working with children and young people? Are you considering a future career in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Mental Health, or Youth Justice?

This supportive and inclusive Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Dorking provides a nurturing environment for pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

The Role - Special Needs Learning Support Assistant

This role in Dorking is an excellent opportunity for graduates seeking practical experience before progressing into careers within psychology, therapy, or mental health services.

As a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support pupils' learning, behaviour, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities for a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN

  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement

  • Assist with personalised learning and behaviour strategies

  • Observe and report on pupil progress and wellbeing

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment

  • Provide personal care where required

What We're Looking For
  • A degree in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or a related field

  • A strong interest in mental health, behaviour, and child development

  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A proactive and reflective mindset

  • Experience with children or vulnerable individuals (desirable but not essential)

  • Able to commute to Dorking

**£93-£105 per day
