Four Elements Hotel Amsterdam is looking for a Sous Chef!

The luxurious Four Elements Hotel Amsterdam is located in the modern Amsterdam district of IJburg and is recognized as the world's first Zero Energy Hotel. Through innovative use of natural elements and sustainable technology, we have created a unique hospitality experience where comfort, quality and sustainability come together.

Our hotel features 195 eco\-friendly guest rooms, a restaurant, a rooftop Sky Bar overlooking the IJmeer, a spacious waterfront terrace and extensive meeting and event facilities hosting up to 200 guests.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Sous Chef who is ready to take the next step in their career and help lead our kitchen team to success.

Job Summary

As Sous Chef, you will be the right hand of the Head Chef and play a key role in the daily management of our kitchen operation. You will support the execution of breakfast, lunch, dinner and banqueting services while helping to train and develop the kitchen team.

This is a hands\-on leadership role that combines operational excellence with team development, planning and quality control.

We are looking for someone who leads through professionalism, communication and teamwork and who thrives in a dynamic hotel environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesKitchen Leadership

  • Support the Head Chef in the daily management of the kitchen operation.

  • Lead the kitchen during service and ensure smooth execution across all outlets.

  • Train, coach and motivate junior chefs and kitchen staff.

  • Maintain a positive, professional and collaborative working environment.

  • Lead by example and support the development of less experienced team members.
Food Quality \& Service
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to established standards.

  • Monitor consistency, quality and portion control.

  • Assist with menu development and seasonal menu changes.

  • Support breakfast, restaurant and banqueting operations.

  • Ensure guest expectations are consistently exceeded.
Operational Management
  • Assist with scheduling and workforce planning.

  • Support inventory management, stock rotation and ordering.

  • Help monitor food costs and minimise waste.

  • Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and used correctly.

  • Assist in preparing for meetings, events and banqueting functions of up to 200 guests.
Food Safety \& Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with HACCP standards and food safety regulations.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation throughout all kitchen areas.

  • Ensure proper storage, labelling and handling of food products.

  • Support ongoing training in hygiene and food safety procedures.
What We Are Looking For
  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or a strong Chef de Partie ready for the next step.

  • Experience within a hotel, restaurant or high\-volume hospitality environment.

  • Knowledge of breakfast, à la carte and banqueting operations.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Passion for coaching and developing team members.

  • Excellent organisational and time\-management abilities.

  • Good understanding of food cost control and kitchen operations.

  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety regulations.

  • Good command of the English language. Dutch is an advantage but not required.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Culinary degree or formal chef training.

  • Experience within a hotel environment.

  • Experience with banqueting and event catering.

  • Knowledge of sustainable food practices and waste reduction initiatives.
