Accountabilities:
- Take ownership of backend features across the full lifecycle, from design and development through deployment and production monitoring, ensuring clarity on progress, risks, and outcomes.
- Design and build scalable backend services that support merchant account experiences, with strong focus on reliability, performance, and fault tolerance in a distributed systems environment.
- Contribute to architecture discussions, propose system improvements, and advocate for maintainable service design, clear contracts, and engineering best practices.
- Monitor production systems, proactively identify issues, and support incident resolution with a strong sense of accountability and operational awareness.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams on scoping, code reviews, and technical decision-making that shapes platform evolution.
- Maintain high engineering standards by producing clean, testable, production-ready code and actively improving shared technical practices across the team.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering experience with the ability to independently deliver production-ready software from ambiguous requirements.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including failure modes, scalability, and system reliability at production scale.
- Hands-on experience designing and working with RESTful APIs and backend services in modern cloud-based environments.
- Proven ability to own features end-to-end, including monitoring, deployment, and post-release operational support.
- Confidence in participating in architecture discussions, challenging design decisions, and contributing to technical direction.
- Experience in fintech, payments, or infrastructure-heavy systems is a plus, but strong engineering fundamentals are most important.
- Comfortable working in remote-first environments with high autonomy, ambiguity, and shifting priorities.
