Software Engineer for Centre for Software Technology (CIS)
Centre for Software Technology (CST), part of the Maersk Mc\-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark, located in Vejle, invites applications for an engineering position to support the buildup of the Centre and supporting laboratories. The centre is a newly started center that focuses on software engineering, interaction technology and AI research and education in close cooperation with companies to utilize the potential in digitalization. It is expected that the centre will experience a significant growth over the next five years.
The Centre for Software Technology (CST) at SDU is a part of the new campus, SDU Vejle, home of excellence within information technology. The academic focus of the SDU Centre for Software Technology is to conduct research in interactive information technology and software engineering. The areas will be complementing each other to make way for the engineering of the next generation of reliable, intelligent and interactive software solutions. This includes understanding how AI technologies and data\-informed software development with a human\-centred perspective can change the engineering of products and software infrastructures.
The centre is involved in a variety of research and collaboration projects nationally and internationally. The centre has a strong collaboration with industry to solve challenging research problems from real applications, and to participate in implementing the achieved results into real solutions with end users. The work in the centre is structured around a number of laboratories.
The work and responsibilities for the applicant will be within the areas of:
- Developing and maintaining infrastructures to support the laboratories in close collaboration with the associated researchers
- Support for research and educational activities
- Managing lab space including inventory, supplies and materials, space maintenance and organization, developing and enforcing safety procedures, providing and managing training for specialized fabrication equipment.
- Prototyping interactive technologies such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, circuits, microcontrollers, soldering, sensors, and actuators
- Software development in relation to advanced interaction technologies, intelligent systems, cyber\-physical systems, e.g. in the areas of critical infrastructure and healthcare systems
- Digital/physical fabrication with laser cutters, 3D printers, 3D modeling, making enclosures for interactive electronics, making professional robust physical artifacts
- Facilitating and participation in business development in collaboration with local industry and municipality
- Using AI technologies effectively, ethically and systematically in the context of engineering applications
- Experience with collaboration projects that involve industry and academia
- Experience with infrastructures to support software development (e.g. Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud infrastructures).
- Experience with implementing software solutions in a variety of programming languages.
- Experience with managing a lab space including managing training for specialized fabrication equipment.
- Experience with prototyping interactive technologies
- Experience with digital/physical fabrication
- Experience with software development processes and methods.
- Experience with the development of middleware, services, micro services, and databases.
- Experience with Generative AI and Prompt Engineering, e.g. tailoring effective prompts to instruct LLMs; knowing the dos and don’ts of GenAI from ethical angles.
- Experience with data engineering including the use of machine learning frameworks with software such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
