The Paediatric Emergency Department (PED) at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is a dynamic, fast\-paced tertiary service providing urgent and emergency care to infants, children, and young people across Greater Manchester and beyond. As one of the busiest paediatric EDs in the region, it manages a wide range of presentations, from minor illness and injury to complex, high\-acuity and trauma cases.

The Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse plays a key role in delivering safe, high\-quality patient care. The post holder will provide clinical leadership on shift, support patient flow, assist with triage and assessment, and ensure timely escalation of deteriorating patients. They will act as a role model, supporting junior staff through supervision, teaching, and mentorship, while promoting evidence\-based practice and adherence to Trust policies.

Working within the multidisciplinary team, the Junior Sister will support patient safety, enhance patient and family experience, and contribute to achieving key operational targets, including ED flow and waiting times. The role also includes involvement in safeguarding, quality improvement, and service development.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced paediatric nurse to develop leadership skills within a high\-performing team in a leading specialist children’s hospital.

The Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will provide clinical leadership within the Paediatric Emergency Department at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital , ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high\-quality care.

The post holder will act as department area leads, coordinating patient flow, supporting triage and assessment, and ensuring timely escalation of clinical concerns. They will deliver and supervise evidence\-based care, recognising and responding to the deteriorating child while maintaining safeguarding standards.

The role includes supporting the band 7 and taking on the role of nurse in charge when required, supporting and mentoring junior staff, contributing to teaching and development, and working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient experience.

The post holder will contribute to achieving key operational targets, participate in quality improvement and governance activities, and ensure compliance with Trust policies and the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code.
