Shop Manager

Walsh’s Gourmet Butcher is looking for a hands\-on Shop Manager to take responsibility for the day\-to\-day running of our busy retail butcher shop in Clonmel.

This is a management role, but it is also very much a hands\-on position. The successful candidate will lead the team while working alongside them. On a normal day you can expect to be serving customers, preparing products, packing and labelling, stocking and merchandising displays and, where you have the relevant experience, cutting and preparing meat. We are not looking for someone to stand back and supervise. We want someone who is comfortable getting involved in the work while also taking responsibility for the performance and standards of the shop.

Responsibilities \- Take responsibility for the day\-to\-day running of the shop \- Lead, organise and work alongside the retail team \- Deliver excellent customer service \- Prepare, pack, label and display products \- Cut and prepare meat where relevant experience allows \- Ensure counters and fridges are fully stocked and attractively presented \- Manage daily staff deployment, breaks and workloads \- Monitor stock levels, rotation, availability and waste \- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety \- Oversee opening and closing procedures \- Assist with ordering and production requirements \- Help drive sales through strong merchandising and product availability \- Train and support team members \- Deal with day\-to\-day staff and customer issues \- Take ownership of the shop when the business owner is not present

Experience Previous management or supervisory experience in a butcher shop, deli, fresh\-food department, supermarket, convenience store or similar food\-retail environment would be a strong advantage. We would also welcome applications from experienced people currently working in the butchery, deli or fresh\-food industries who are ready to take the next step into management. A formal butchery qualification is not essential. Butchery or meat\-preparation experience would be advantageous, but we are equally interested in candidates with strong fresh\-food retail experience and proven leadership ability.
