The Role

We are looking for a mechanically biased engineer with strong practical maintenance and fault\-finding skills. As a Shift Engineer, you will play a key role in keeping our production machinery and facilities running safely and efficiently.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for reactive and planned maintenance across a wide range of production and packaging equipment. The role will involve diagnosing mechanical faults, carrying out repairs, replacing and maintaining mechanical components, and supporting improvements to machinery reliability.

You will also be expected to have a good working knowledge of electrical systems and be comfortable carrying out basic electrical fault\-finding where required.

What You’ll Do

• Perform reactive and proactive maintenance on a variety of process and packaging equipment, with a strong focus on mechanical maintenance.


• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise downtime and support efficient production.


• Work on mechanical systems including conveyors, bearings, belts, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, pumps, motors and drive systems.


• Carry out maintenance and fault\-finding on pneumatic and hydraulic systems.


• Strip, inspect, repair and replace mechanical components as required.


• Carry out building maintenance and upgrades when needed.


• Drive a lean and effective PPM (planned preventative maintenance) system to ensure all machinery is maintained to the highest standard.


• Identify recurring mechanical faults and recommend improvements to increase machinery reliability.


• Support engineering projects, machinery installations, modifications and upgrades.


• Monitor and maintain technical records, OEM manuals, engineering drawings and electrical documentation.


• Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety regulations and site risk assessments.


• Collaborate with production and management to maintain high standards of reliability and efficiency.


• Flexible approach to hours to cover maintenance peaks, holidays, and sickness.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer, Shift Engineer or Mechanical Engineer, ideally in a food manufacturing or production environment.


• Strong mechanical engineering and fault\-finding skills.


• Experience working with industrial production and processing machinery.


• Good knowledge of mechanical systems including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, belts, chains, pumps and drive systems.


• Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.


• Good general electrical knowledge and the ability to carry out basic electrical fault\-finding.


• Experience with PPM systems or willingness to learn and maintain planned preventative maintenance schedules.


• Ability to read technical drawings, manuals, engineering drawings and electrical schematics.


• Practical, reliable and proactive approach to engineering and problem\-solving.


• Strong communication skills and a team\-oriented mindset.


• Willingness to work rotating shifts and regular Saturday overtime.

Hours \& Flexibility

• Rotating shifts Monday \- Friday (06:00–14:00 \& 14:00–22:00\).


• Weekend working is expected, usually every other Saturday.


• Flexibility required for holidays, sickness cover, and maintenance peaks.

Please note: This is a rotating shift role and we are particularly interested in mechanically biased engineers with strong hands\-on mechanical maintenance and fault\-finding experience.
