Job Overview
- The SHE Manager is responsible for leading, embedding, and assuring health, safety, and environmental (SHE) performance across engineering service delivery within a regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
The SHE Manager acts as the subject matter expert and independent assurance function, supporting operational leaders while maintaining clear oversight of high\-risk activities, major hazards, and critical controls.
Main Duties
- + ead and assure high\-quality:
- Risk assessments (RAMS, COSHH, environmental impact)
- Hazard identification and control implementation
+ Verify that controls are effective, not just documented
### Safety Leadership \& Culture
- Drive a proactive, intervention\-led safety culture across engineering and maintenance teams
- Promote visible safety leadership and reinforce “stop / intervene” behaviours
- Ensure all personnel understand their safety responsibilities and risk ownership### Regulatory \& GxP Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with:
- Health \& Safety legislation (UK/EU)
- Environmental regulations
- Pharmaceutical GxP / GMP standards
- Client\-specific requirements (AZ/GSK standards)
- Maintain working knowledge of relevant standards and codes of practice### Risk Management \& Control Assurance
+ Implement and oversee:
- Safe Systems of Work (SSoW)
- Permit to Work (PTW) systems
- Clear accountability
- Auditability and traceability
- Alignment with Integrated Management Systems (IMS)### Assurance, Audit \& Performance Monitoring
+ Monitor SHE performance through:
- Leading/lagging indicators
- Incident trends
- Compliance metrics
Incident Management \& Learning
+ Lead investigation of:
- Accidents
- Near misses
- Environmental incidents
+ Embed learning across engineering teams### Emergency Preparedness \& Resilience
+ Ensure:
- Emergency response plans are in place for engineering\-related incidents
- Site teams are trained and competent in response procedures
- Regular drills and exercises are conducted### Competence \& Training
- Engineers
- Supervisors
- Contractors
+ Assure safe delivery of work by subcontractors through:
- Pre\-qualification and onboarding
- Monitoring and audit
- Enforcement of SHE standards### Sustainability \& Environmental Performance
- Waste, energy, and emissions management
- Environmental risk control
What we are looking for
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) – essentialEnvironmental qualification (IEMA or equivalent) – desirableExperience in:
+ Engineering / technical services deliveryStrong knowledge of:
+ ISO 45001 / ISO 14001
+ GxP / GMP expectations
+ High\-risk engineering activities
